Do you know what Mount Rushmore is? It honors people in our country who have done something good for people. Who do you think should be on Mount Rushmore? I feel that Susan B. Anthony, Harriet Tubman, Martin Luther King Jr., and Malala Yousafzai all deserve to be on the mountain. I hope I can influence you to think the same.
The first person I think deserves it is Susan B. Anthony. First of all, she founded the National Woman Suffrage Association. This association was to help women have the right to vote. In addition, she helped end slavery in America with her anti-slavery efforts. Because she cast a vote in a presidential election, she went on trial. The trial brought attention to the issue. Another thing she did was help write a women’s rights journal called “The Revolution”. Above all, she gave 75-100 speeches each year. This was a big role in women gaining the right to vote.
Next, Harriet Tubman should be on the mountain. Harriet Tubman served in the Union Army as a nurse and a spy. During that time she gave nursing care to black soldiers. She was a “conductor” on the Underground Railroad and guided slaves to freedom. She freed 70 slaves and did not fail a single time. She also founded a Home for the Aged to care for aged African Americans. These are all things that helped slaves during the civil war.
Similarly, Martin Luther King Jr. did many things to help African American civil rights. He encouraged nonviolent protest. He provided leadership during the civil rights movement so that people had somebody to look to. Furthermore, he brought publicity to civil rights activities. This helped influence people. He led a bus boycott and this led to the laws being changed for African Americans to be able to sit where they want on the buses. Ultimately, his “I Have a Dream” speech was very important because he was trying to end racism in the U.S, by speaking out to lots of people.
Finally, Malala Yousafzai played a big role in the world for girls education in poor countries. She created a Malala Fund to empower girls through education. Her fund gave a $3 million commitment to developing countries to go towards girls’ education. She won the Nobel Peace Prize for her commitment to helping children’s rights around the world. One amazing thing she did was helping Syrian refugee children cross the border to be safe from the war. She also met with the Nigerian President to help raise awareness for the 219 schoolgirls that were abducted by a terrorist group. These were all very good things for children.
I hope that you can see why these people should be on Mount Rushmore. They have all done something wonderful for the world. All of them have the same quality of wanting to help people even if it is dangerous. Overall, Susan B. Anthony, Harriet Tubman, Martin Luther King Jr., and Malala Yousafzai are wonderful people who helped people through hard times.
