In my opinion, this movie offers important insights that should reach a wider audience. Many individuals lack awareness of the long-term impact of their everyday choices due to either naivety or excessive preoccupation with other matters. The film effectively demonstrates how human actions have brought about substantial alterations to the Earth throughout history. It visually portrays the transformation of once fertile agricultural lands into urban structures.
Our focus on personal actions outweighs concerns for the well-being of future generations. The combustion of chemicals in gasoline and oil factories is a major cause of air pollution, resulting in severe contamination in Los Angeles. BP companies emit harmful chemicals through flares, which contribute to lung cancer and asthma. To combat these issues and promote environmental justice, I am actively engaged with People’s C.O.R.E., an organization committed to creating a safer and healthier environment for our community. Unfortunately, industrial pollution disproportionately affects low-income communities. While the film addressed thought-provoking topics that I appreciated, it also evoked guilt for my lack of participation in global improvement.
While I personally engage in recycling and discouraging littering, I understand that my actions alone may not create a substantial impact when compared to the broader changes required from governments, both our own and those of other nations. Nonetheless, it is truly encouraging to witness influential individuals such as Leonardo DiCaprio emphasizing the potential for positive change through our individual efforts. His message serves as a source of hope for a brighter future.
