Goal setting involves the process of developmental action plans designed to motivate. And guide a person or group towards achieving a certain goal. Goals are an important process that start with either a new skill, objective or project you would like to achieve.

The setting of goals has shown to increase the motivation of employees. As well as the fact that goals affect the intensity of our actions and emotions (for example the more difficult and valued a goal is, the more intense our effort will be in order to obtain it). Goal setting also involves the planning of the future; this is beneficial as when people think positively of the future it improves the possibility to set and create new goals.

A learning goal is a reason that is forcing the reason for teaching and observing the actions given by the teacher. Learning goals should be stated in terms of what students are able to achieve and understand in a span of a lesson or more.

The goal that I have chosen/selected to improve on is my procrastination, the reason I have chosen this specific goal is because in the past and currently I struggle with procrastination. The act of procrastination has had a large effect on my health as well as learning, as I have noticed that leaving work till the last minute isn’t always going to be beneficial.

My goal of procrastinating less is highly important to me, as I would like to stop my procrastination, and I am prepared to carry out the needed actions required for this. In order to change my habits of procrastinating, I will use multiple sources and people, such as family, friends and the internet in order to assist me in overcoming this challenge. I will begin to ask my parents to supervise my work more frequently (so that I can make sure I am completing my work) by giving them my mobile device, so that I am able to focus better in order to minimize my procrastination. Another action I will employ is to set myself a time limit of “screen time” as well as create a schedule which would be useful for being my organization and time management skills.

With the help of this goal settings task, I plan to achieve a range of short and long term goals that will each have a reward system which I will use to measure my success. The capability that procrastination falls under would be the personal and social capability, as I am attempting to become more aware of my weaknesses related to learning, such as procrastination.

One of my first short term goals for minimizing procrastination is to have a strict schedule I go by, whenever I come home from school, as well as establish an appropriate “bed time”. With a schedule, this will motivate me to complete tasks more efficiently (as I will have everything planned out) and not leave things till the last minute. I will also use a rewards system (doing something active, phone, and eating) for when I complete certain tasks, in order to boost my productivity. Family and friends as well as school teachers will assist me in this process, as I’ll ask my guardians to keep an eye on the use of my mobile device whilst I’m working (limiting distractions); and teachers notifying me earlier about the due date of a task (so that I can complete it before the due date and not leave things till the last minute). In my opinion this short term goal will take me approximately 3-4 weeks to complete.

A long term goal I wish to establish is to complete all future work/assignments at least two days before their due date. I will accomplish this by firstly completing my short term goal of establishing a schedule, which will then lead to me being more organized and motivated to complete work when it is assigned, instead of leaving it to the last minute. In order to accomplish this task/goal I would use a timer/stopwatch as a helping resource. The set time limit will assist me in being more aware of my timeline- leading to me being more efficifnt with my time management. The way that I will know that I am successful in my strategies, is the completion of more work before their due dates.
