Legally Blonde holds a special place in my heart as it deeply resonates with me. Both the main character and I share the experience of being underestimated for our “girlish” qualities in a courtroom setting. We are both driven to prove ourselves and fight for justice using our language abilities and knowledge. While the protagonist accomplishes her dream, I am still on my own journey, persistently pursuing mine.
Upon entering Hunan Normal University, I have engaged in a comprehensive study of the vast and highly specific field of law. I have dedicated myself to learning and have gained a deep understanding of various legal disciplines such as Comparative Law, Corporation Law, and other significant areas. Through the use of mind maps, I have synthesized this knowledge and assessed my proficiency in multiple assessments, allowing me to establish a cohesive understanding and mastery of these subjects. In order to further enrich my knowledge and apply what I have learned in practical situations, I have worked as an intern assistant at The People’s Court of Yuelu District as well as two law firms in Changsha.
Over the past three years, I have found International Economic Law and Foreign-related Legal Proceedings to be the most impressive subjects. These areas have not only introduced me to new concepts but also provided an international perspective on legal conventions that I had never considered before. Initially, I didn’t think this knowledge would be applicable in my hometown, which is located inland. However, I soon realized its significance when I discovered that some of my relatives are involved in cross-border business transactions and rely on these laws. This realization has further fueled my passion for this field, as demonstrated by achieving the highest score in the final examination.
Over the summer, I participated in the Investment Banking Course at Zhongtai Financial International Limited and received the Third Prize in the Business Plan Competition. This opportunity enhanced my understanding of economic-related law and allowed me to gain practical experience in this field. It inspired me to further specialize in subjects like international economic development and law, world trade law, and international banking law. Consequently, I have decided to pursue a Master of Laws Programme in International Economic Law offered by The Chinese University of Hong Kong’s Faculty of Law.
This program is perfect for me because it deals with legal matters in different jurisdictions and teaches theory as well as practical advice on contract drafting. Participating in this program will give me the necessary knowledge to handle cases involving various jurisdictions in my future career. Additionally, it will lay a solid foundation for my academic growth, specifically in identifying legal issues that arise from business transactions in China and finding creative solutions for problems related to the evolving political, economic, and social landscape.
The program will improve my understanding of the field and enhance my oral and written advocacy skills by offering academic resources, experienced faculty, and diverse educational activities like MOOTING. I also plan to join the Sir TL Yang Society to develop my academic potential and professional abilities while learning from others’ experiences. Additionally, Hong Kong’s reputation as a global trading hub makes it an ideal location for acquiring relevant knowledge.
I plan to start my career at a law firm after completing my postgraduate studies. My goal is to enhance my skills and knowledge as an assistant solicitor and eventually become an experienced practitioner. Ultimately, I aim to become a partner in a law firm. I am confident that The Chinese University of Hong Kong’s Faculty of Law can provide me with the guidance and mentorship needed to achieve my goals.
