About my day: “Saved by the Bell”

Table of Content

The school bell rang and I rushed to put my books back inside the lump of junk below my seat. I squished back my belly to slide through my desk and I jumped up to give me a boost out of my seat without falling over. My phone clattered to the ground, I was pretty sure it cracked but kept my face blank so I did not draw any attention to myself. I bent my knees to reach down to grab my phone without exposing too much of my backside. I inhaled a sharp breath as I saw the spider web crack on my phone. I almost whimpered or wanted to to cry in front of my peers. I shoved it into my bag and sprint walked out the door to get in a seat in the classroom before any of the other wild animals approached my seat.

I walked through the zoo of life’s hallways, wondering if the other so called “humans” we’re staring at me as I struggled to get by. All my life I never wanted be noticed if it meant I didn’t have to deal with the judging eyes of man. But deep down all I ever wanted was love. From one who loved what was covering me and what was inside. Unfortunately, I knew that no such thing existed. That’s why I kept to myself about all such things. That’s why I isolate myself, so no one will ever get the chance to hurt me if I can help it. I scurried into the classroom finding my seat in the back corner. Oh yeah, and did I mention it’s the first day of school. Sigh, yup it was going to be a long day. I took my seat dumping everything on the ground the small desk being violated by the huge embodiment that occupied the seat. I couldn’t wait for the bell to ring and for class to begin so I could start day-dreaming without any distractions. As the class settled down the final bell rang signaling for class to start.

The teacher walked in, and my heart stopped. What I saw before me was a staggering view of a creature with ethereal features. My breathing became shallow as I watched him swagger over to his desk and to face the class with his emerald fire eyes. As he opened his lips to introduce himself a low and gravelly sound escaped his mouth, “Hello everyone, I’d like to introduce myself. My name is Mr.Rashek and you shall call me that and nothing else. I will call attendance and you will raise your hand and tell us about something you like and a pet peeve, what you would like to learn in this biology class this year and what you like to do in your free time and why. If you refuse to participate then I advise you exit now and walk down to the office to explain your refusal. That will be all ”, he said in a commanding luring voice. His eyes surveyed the class to see who would refuse, he then settled his eyes on me. I was sure he could see the fear and condensation pooling around my forehead. His feral eyes coming into contact with mine and they stayed there. I asked myself in that moment could this get any worse?

It felt like the process went really fast to get to me, which is really ironic cause my last name is Yzaar. The world was really working against me today. I couldn’t see what I did to deserve this. I must’ve oppressed a nation in my past life. I felt the tips of my ears burning, to the tips of my toes. I wanted to cry out at the onslaught of his gaze on me. I started to hear whispers flicker in and out of my consciousness. That’s when he finally said “Rosaline?”.

I meekly replied, “ Yes sir”. He then said, “ It’s your turn, you may speak now. I look past him to see a big dragon fly zooming past his forehead eagerly. Strangely it looked so peculiar to the point where the creature or insecthad very humanistic features. I started to hear a hissing sound. In reality I knew I was hearing actual words coming from it but my mind wasn’t registering it as everyone waitedon my response. I don’t know when but, I ended up blurting the words,”dragonflies are my best friends”,as everyone stared strangely at my head. The professor slowly smiled as if expecting what I was going to say or as if he had been brought exciting news he had been waiting for. Strangely it looked as if he had found what he had been looking for. I think that had been the beginning of a never ending journey for me.
