Identify three quotes from the dialogue that show how Bryce progressed in identifying his emotions. The three quotes from the dialogue that show how Bryce progressed in identifying his emotions are; “l finally realized nothing I did mattered. I just couldn’t take another rejection. The bottom line is, no one wants me. ” “I feel bad, but I can’t do anything about it. “l guess I’m not feeling much of anything. ” 2. Identify and explain, using concepts from the text, at least one example of an obstacle to communicating emotions in the situation. We may not have total control over what we feel, but we as humans can usually show some control. Furthermore, we can demonstrate substantial control over how we do or don’t express our feelings and to whom we express them. Taking personal responsibility for when, how, and to whom you express feelings is a cornerstone of ethical interpersonal communication.

With that being said, another reason we often choose not to express feelings is that we fear we could hurt or upset others. Sometimes we make an ethical choice not to express motions that would hurt another person without achieving any positive response or outcome. Simply choosing not to express in some situations or to some people can be constructive and generous. Bryce uses generalities, use of general or abstract language which is limiting his ability to communicate exactly how he is feeling.

For example he states that he “feels bad” I think he also feels vulnerable, which is the fear that if he reveals his feelings it will have a negative effect on what others think of him like his friend for instance. For example- he just states he is not feeling much of anything, so he cannot be judged based on hat he is truly feeling. 3. Identify and explain at least two examples of irrational beliefs that Bryce holds. Beliefs can be obtained and maintained by interpersonal cognitive structures, sometimes based on particular uncommon occurrences. Bryce does not believe in himself.

Believing in yourself is all about being sure that you are going to do whatever you want, even if others were against you. Usually when you decide to take a big challenge or to do something that people failed to do you will find that everyone is putting you down. Two irrational beliefs that he holds is one that no en wants him and two that there is nothing he can do to change his present situation. These irrational beliefs hold Bryce back from changing his current situation and from evaluating and expressing his real emotions which in turn could save his marriage and help him out of the situation he is in. . Explain, using concepts from the text, how Bryce could use surface acting and deep acting to better align his emotions and behavior with the needs of his job search. Although on the inside Bryce feels that finding employment is hopeless which his body language and facial features are sure to reflect he should learn how to intro his outward appearance to benefit his job search. Showing an outward appearance of determination and genuine desire to be employed as well as a personable demeanor is more conductive than having a look of defeat. . Based on the textbook’s guidelines for communicating emotions effectively (p. 182-1 87), identify and explain at least three strategies Bryce could use to improve his interpersonal communication in this situation. Based on the text book’s guidelines for communicating emotions effectively, Bryce could use identifying emotions, owning your feelings, and adopting rational-emotive approach to feelings to improve his interpersonal communication in his situation.

If Bryce was to become fully aware of how he is feeling, he would not feel so embarrassed to communicate exactly what the problem is. Bryce would become more acceptable to receiving help or advice. Once he achieves being able to accept responsibility for his emotions, he will reduce the likelihood of others reacting defensively towards how he feels. This will also minimize the fear of judgment Bryce has if he was to express his emotions to close friends or loved ones.
