Throughout my life, I have had a deep love for athleticism, which began in my early years. Sports have always played a significant role in shaping who I am today and their importance to me cannot be overstated. As I grew older, participating in various athletic programs became an essential aspect of my personal development. While not everyone may share the same passion for sports, it is undeniable that their involvement offers numerous benefits for high school students. Engaging in school activities and taking part in sports provides an amazing opportunity for students to stay actively involved both mentally and physically.
Extensive research has revealed no opposing viewpoints on the inclusion of sports in educational institutions. On the contrary, having athletic programs and activities in schools is highly beneficial for students’ well-being as it promotes physical fitness, teamwork, discipline, and excellence. These high school activity programs receive significant support from school administrators and parents due to their positive impact on students of all genders (Braddock P. 1). Additionally, an exciting aspect of participating in a high school sport is the opportunity to travel.
Participating in a club or sports team enables students to venture into unfamiliar schools and places that are typically not frequented. Despite the possibility of these locations being close by, the experience of lengthy bus rides with teammates remains enjoyable. The importance of competitiveness is evident in athletics as it drives the game forward. However, competition can also extend to other areas of life. Some researchers contend that sports detract from academic clubs and other extracurriculars, potentially impacting students’ academic achievements. Nevertheless, studies have refuted this theory.
Students can choose to engage in both chess and the beta club or select one. In either case, they will have opportunities to enhance their time management and teamwork skills. Irrespective of their team preference, students are expected to demonstrate honor and commitment. The same abilities can also be acquired by participating in athletic teams. Nevertheless, students need to exercise caution as high school sports may potentially divert their focus from academics. Being involved in a sport and being part of a team necessitates significant effort.
If a student fails to meet the coaches’ expectations for grades, they will not be able to join the team. However, being part of a team can inspire students to maintain their grades as a requirement for continued participation. High school sports demand considerable time commitment, and occasionally students may hesitate to participate because of homework and other obligations. Nonetheless, engaging in high school activities or sports imparts valuable time management skills.
Time management encompasses a range of elements including principles, practices, skills, tools, and systems that work together to enhance the value obtained from time and improve overall life quality. It teaches students effective ways to manage schoolwork, team participation, homework, or other post-sport activities (Braddock P.). Moreover, participating in high school sports helps maintain a consistent exercise routine which provides long-term health benefits. Regular exercise during childhood increases the likelihood of continuing fitness habits into adulthood. Additionally, exercise plays a crucial role in reducing stress and depression while promoting physical fitness, healthy eating habits, and a wholesome lifestyle. The impact of high school sports on college students has significantly increased recently as those who participate achieve higher scores on ACT and SAT examinations and demonstrate better attendance records compared to their non-sport peers.
A study published in Research Quality for Sports Research found that female college athletes who took part in high school sports show better time management skills compared to non-athletic students. Various research studies suggest that engaging in sports and activities can lead to enhanced academic achievement, attendance, and attitudes, as opposed to those who do not participate. Although being part of a team demands significant dedication, the future advantages make it a worthwhile pursuit.
Another advantage of high school sports is that they instill values such as honor and commitment. Engaging in high school sports helps develop strong leaders and fosters a desire for future success. Students participating in high school sports learn from their team’s accomplishments. As a collective unit, the team can be a formidable force against their rivals, pushing them to their limits. Being part of a team enables students to achieve great things. Moreover, playing sports enhances motor skills, strategic thinking, and even mathematical abilities.
Students can develop strategic thinking skills as they figure out plays and the best approach to outmaneuver opponents or score goals. In addition, math skills come into play as they calculate scores and statistics. Moreover, being part of a team provides opportunities to form meaningful friendships. Spending ample time together with teammates fosters a strong sense of honor and commitment as the foundation of the team. The term “team” implies an organized group collaborating towards a shared goal. Without establishing a solid team dynamic, a team cannot thrive. Throughout my life, being part of various teams has imparted valuable lessons that I anticipate applying in the future.
