According to Yoder-Wise (2011), leadership involves using personal traits to ethically influence patients, families, and staff, leading to collective efforts and achieving clinical and organizational outcomes (p. 612). This article will discuss the leadership components of an anonymous healthcare facility. There are two main types of leadership approaches, as described in our textbook: transformational leadership and transactional leadership (Yoder-Wise, 2011). Transformational leadership focuses on motivation and establishing relationships with staff based on a shared vision and mission (Frandsen, 2013). On the other hand, transactional leadership involves one superior making decisions with little to no input from employees (Yoder-Wise, 2011). The nurse manager’s leadership philosophy and style will also be discussed.

The leadership clinical preceptor I had the opportunity to work with throughout the semester considers herself a transformational leader (J. P., personal communication, March 23, 2014). The preceptor exhibits characteristics of transformational leadership, including charisma, inspiration, motivation, and viewing each employee as an individual (Yoder-Wise, 2011). For instance, she takes the initiative to personally familiarize herself with each employee by learning about their likes, dislikes, hobbies, and family life from the moment they are hired (J. P., personal communication, March 23, 2014). Additionally, she fosters an environment that promotes teamwork rather than individualism among unit employees (J. P., personal communication, March 23, 2014).

Personnel Management Management is a complex process of guiding the middle of the paper. The Watson and Westley Planned Change Model consists of seven phases in which the change is planned, implemented, and evaluated (Yoder-Wise, 2011). This issue’s outcome is an ongoing process; the nurse practice council has submitted the need to the hospital policy board for implementation into policy (T. personal communication, April 2, 2014).
