Throughout history there have been many people known as heroes. Most of these people have done fantastic things to assist society. However. in literature there is another type of hero. the tragic hero. While tragic heroes do fantastic things excessively. they besides have a character defect that causes their ruin along with others. This essay is to turn out that in the drama “Antigone” . written by Sophocles. Creon is a tragic hero.

One of the demands to be considered a tragic hero is the individual must be of baronial birth. Creon was the boy of Menoeceus and the brother of Jocasta. He was besides the brother-in-law and uncle of Oedipus. Creon became king when Oedipus was banished and he married Eurydice and had two kids. Megarus and Haimon. Creon is the male monarch of Thebes and all these people are of baronial birth so hence Creon can be considered a tragic hero.

To be a tragic hero you must besides convey about your ain ruin along with the ruin of others. Creon shows this at the terminal of the drama. He brings about his ain ruin by slaying Antigone. When Haimon and Eurydice find out that Antigone is dead they both kill themselves. Even thought Creon didn’t really kill himself he still brought about his ruin emotionally and now hates himself. This is another clear fact that Creon is a tragic hero.

Another demand of being a tragic hero is holding a tragic personality defect. Creon’s tragic defect is that he is excessively obstinate and lets his award get in the manner of his determinations. When Eteocles and Polyneices killed each other. Creon gave Eteocles a full military entombment and decreed that Polyneices should be left to decompose. When Antigone heard this she buried her brother Polyneices anyhow. Creon sentenced her to decease and would non alter his head because he thought he would look weak to his people. This obstinacy caused him to slay Antigone. Creon’s obstinacy is his tragic defect which is shown throughout the drama.

These facts clearly show that Creon. from the drama “Antigone” written by Sophocles. is a tragic hero. He is baronial. he caused the ruin of himself and others and he has a tragic defect. Even though these things may look more like the traits of a scoundrel. he is still considered a hero in literature.
