Drinking and driving is a serious issue in the driving world. Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for U.S. teens, with 1 in every 7 teens aged 16 to 19 dying every day from motor vehicle injuries in 2010. Teen drivers aged 16 to 19 are three times more likely than drivers aged 20 and older to be involved in a fatal crash when comparing miles driven.
Shockingly, about 2,700 teens aged 16-19 were killed and almost 282,000 were treated and released from emergency departments for injuries from motor-vehicle crashes in the same year.
In that particular year, people aged between 16-24 were involved in approximately one-fourth (28%) of all alcohol-related driving accidents despite accounting for only fourteen percent (14%) of the U.S. population.
Fortunately, driving accidents have decreased for both the general population and young individuals. Moreover, there has been a noteworthy 47% decline in fatalities caused by alcohol-consuming drivers aged 16-24 during the past 15 years. A prominent organization committed to combating drunk driving and underage drinking is “MADD” (Mothers against drunk driving), which acts as the largest nonprofit organization nationwide with a focus on safeguarding families.
MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) and SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) are organizations that provide support and education related to drunk and drugged driving. MADD offers assistance to victims and survivors, including mothers, fathers, and others affected by drunk driving. SADD is an educational program aimed at preventing alcohol and drug abuse among adolescents and young teens by redirecting their energy towards more positive activities.
SADD, which stands for Students Against Destructive Decisions, is an organization committed to disseminating information about preventing accidents caused by drunk driving. They offer specialized programs designed specifically for teenagers that aim to educate them on the significance of avoiding drunk driving incidents and provide other valuable resources. In order to contribute towards preventing drunk driving incidents and accidents, I can establish my own organization that offers educational materials and knowledge regarding the hazards associated with drunk driving. Furthermore, I can actively engage with individuals from different age groups in my community and school by initiating discussions concerning the risks linked to drunk driving. Adolescents are particularly vulnerable to becoming victims of alcohol-related car accidents during our age group. My ultimate objective is to ensure a safe driving environment not only for teenagers but also for everyone else.
The decrease in drunk driving accidents results in a reduction in the number of deaths caused by them. To achieve my objective, I aim to furnish teenagers with precise information regarding drunk driving and how it can be prevented. I will actively participate in increasing awareness and tackling this problem by educating individuals on different approaches to avoid drunk driving. Furthermore, I have the capability to construct a website that exhibits the fatalities arising from being engaged in or causing a drunk driving incident.
