I hope that upon receiving this letter, time has been very good to you and that you are in excellent condition. I believe that you are facing life’s difficulties almost everyday. But I am confident that you can handle any tough situation because you are a strong person. I am writing this letter to you because I want to remind you of a few things about your struggles with your parents.
There maybe times when you were deprived of freedom to do things that you want to do, like going out with friends or staying late at night to play video games. I feel the sense of rebelliousness towards your parents who seem not to care about your enjoyment. But slow down young lady, they are the people who are most concerned about your welfare. The care and love of a parent cannot be replaced by anything in this world. You were raised according to their sets of disciplines which you find annoying most of the time. But believe me, it is for your own good. When you grow up and enter the world of adults, you’ll understand what I mean.
I can still remember how your mom scolded when you went out with your friends without asking permission and did not come home until the crack of dawn. Then, you got so angry at your mom because she grounded you for a month. Please keep your mind open and believe in every word that she says.
Accept the consequences of your misdeeds. You know very well that going out without your parents’ permission and staying so late outside is very irresponsible. Have the initiative to ask for forgiveness. I’m sure she will understand because she carried you in her womb for 9 months and brought you into this beautiful world. Actually, if there is anyone in the world you can understand you the most, that would be your mom, because she experienced everything that you’re going through when she was your age.
Being tasked to do house chores and the things that you think are just a waste of time is also what I’m concerned about. They are asking you to complete these tasks not because they are just using you and abusing your powerlessness, but it is because they trust you, and doing these tasks can help you become more responsible and independent. But when they stop you from doing something which you think you can accomplish, remember that you are still young and there are things that you cannot do alone.
Despite your misgivings, you’ve always known where to draw the line. For that, I am proud of you. But at this point in your life, you need to start thinking about your future and learn to stand on your own feet. I want you to learn from your experiences. To that end, I’m writing this letter to remind you of those times, and to accept the advice and assistance of your parents who really care. All you have to do is treat them with as much love, kindness and respect as you give yourself.
