Abraham Lincoln and Martin Luther King both knew that slavery was morally wrong.
Martin Luther King wrote and performed a whole speech in front of a huge crowd. Abraham Lincoln did the same, but his speech was much shorter than Kings. Both of their speeches were great speeches and were messages that were made to get a explicit point across about their opinion in slavery.
They both wanted liberty and justice not just for 1 person but for everyone. So these men had come to the same conclusion of men rights. These 2 men wrote these speeches to make a difference. A difference to take slavery away, to bring more freedom into their community, country, cities and etc. They had plenty of the same kinds of people listening to their speeches, majority of them were abolitionists. Abolitionists were people who agreed to and wanted to end slavery.
Abraham delivered his speech August 28, 1863. Martin Luther King delivered his speech November 19, 1963. Abraham was assassinated April 14, 1865, 2 years after he delivered the gettysburg address. Martin Luther King was assassinated April 4, 1968, 5 years after he gave the “I have a dream” speech. The same month as Abraham just different day/ year. People were devastated within they’re deaths. Why? Because those 2 men were important to them they died fighting for not just their own freedom and justice but for freedom and justice for all.
Abraham Lincoln wanted to abandon slavery, Martin Luther King wanted the same but Abraham didn’t really care about racism and etc. King did, he saw the importance in “colored” people. Abraham knew that slavery was bad but, he didn’t experience the troubles of young African American, men and woman. King did because, whatever they went through as young black men, and woman, he went through. King himself was an young black African American. Abraham was white, so he didn’t go through half the stuff King and others went through.
Although Abraham Lincoln understood slavery he didn’t think that blacks should have the same rights as whites. Abraham and King stated that “All men are created equal”. This did not mean that they both agreed and thoroughly thought that all men were equal. Overall these too men were the greatest of all time. They helped free slavery for all these young men, and woman. They died trying to help bring more freedom to the U.S. Which is very important in history today.
