A trip to the beach is an adventure and escape from life’s worries and responsibilities, providing relaxation for both young and old. Whether you are swimming, surfing, playing with a football on the sand, or simply lounging on a towel to tan or take a nap, the beach is a place for fun. Making a sand castle only requires a twelve inch deep pail, a small plastic shovel of your chosen color, and plenty of moist sand that can be found at the beach. People of all ages enjoy making sand castles along the sandy shores. Simply start by digging up a large amount of sand.

Scoop the sand into at least six pails and arrange it into a pile at your desired construction spot. Level off the sand at the rim of each pail as you pat it down. Use the pail to place one pail full of sand after another face down on the beach. Construct four towers by placing each mound twelve inches apart in a square. Once the towers are finished, connect them together to build the walls.

Go and scoop up sand along the perimeter of the castle, and arrange a wall six inches high and twelve inches long between each pair of towers. By doing this, you are also creating the moat that will be surrounding the sand castle. This can help ward off any warriors that threaten to destroy your castle, or any dangerous sea creatures. Now, with a steady hand, cut a one inch square block out of every other inch along the side of each tower. Your shovel will come in handy during this part. But make sure you smooth the tops and sides of the towers and walls before you begin.

Step back and admire the castle you’ve built. Although it won’t last long or until evening, be proud of your creation. Capture pictures to exhibit it to loved ones. Select a secluded spot to work, or else passersby and children could unintentionally destroy your masterpiece. Additionally, consider the incoming waves. Place your sand castle at a safe distance from the water’s edge to prevent it from getting washed away.
