Ashley Dingman English 1101 October 7, 2012 How to prepare to go Camping Camping gives an individual an opportunity to be outdoors and enjoy nature. People either love or hate to go camping. I grew up camping every weekend during the summer and loved every minute of it. Camping gives you an opportunity to see places you have never seen before. Experience new things you would not be able to at your own home or in a city. There are a few things that you should do to prepare for camping: plan on where to go, plan how long you will be gone, plan what is going to be needed to take, and the activities to do while there.
Planning on where to go camping is the most important step. A person needs to decide whether they want a dry warm area, or an area where there may be a river, lake. Maybe you want a place with trees. There are many campsites throughout the United States prepared for camping. Some people may even want to camp off the traveled path and drive to an unknown place. My favorite place to camp is Falls Crick by Palisades in Idaho. It is a place that is warm during the day but cools off towards the night. It is surrounded with lots of trees to make the scenery a bit more pleasing to the eye.
Planning on where you’re going camping is going to affect on what you need to pack for the adventure. That is why it is the most important step. Planning on what you need to take camping can be quite a list. After you have decided where you are going to go, you need to decide on whether you’re going to camp in a tent or a camp trailer. Younger people tend to camp in tents because they can’t afford a trailer where as older people have saved up. If you plan on sleeping in a tent you may want to stick to a dry warm area where as if you were in a trailer you could choose either.
The next step would be on how many days you planned on going for. You may choose to take a weeklong trip or just a quick weekend getaway. By choosing how long you will be away for helps you prepare on what else you may need to take. If you go for more than two days make sure you have enough food to last the time. I would bring an extra pair of clothes encase you decide to stay another day. When you have decided how long you will be gone for you will need to plan for meals. You will need enough food for every meal and maybe some snacks.
Make sure that you have plenty of water because you may not be anywhere near a place to get any. You will also need some type of bedding. Be sure it is comfortable. Waking up with a sore back is never fun. If you are in a tent you will need a sleeping bag and some extra blankets encase it gets cold at night. If you are in a trailer they provide a bed and you just may need a blanket to keep you comfortable. Always bring extra clothing for you never know what the weather will do. Bring extra shoes for an activity may require a certain type of shoe such as hiking boots.
You may also want to bring some wood so you can make a fire to either keep yourself warm, help cook food, or just to sit around at night. Make sure that you have the necessity of toilet paper and soap to keep yourself clean. After you have all the items ready to go you will need to decide on what you are going to do on your camping trip. Camping gives you an opportunity to do an activity outdoors. There are so many different kinds of activities that you can do. If you are near water and own a boat you can bring that along and go boating during the day.
If you have four wheelers you could take a day and explore the area around you. If you chose a place that has hills around you may want to go for a hike. You may love playing games with those who went with you. You may take board games, card games or maybe even lawn games. The more activities you have to do the more you will enjoy your trip. One of my favorite things to do while camping is roasting marshmallows and having s’mores. A s’more is a roasted marshmallow on top of chocolate between two graham crackers. Another activity I love about camping is being able to sit around the fire and hear people tell stories.
Whether it is scary stories or stories about their life, I enjoy them all. Camping is an activity that anybody can do. You just need to know the steps of preparing yourself for anything that could happen. I love camping and will continue to camp until I do not enjoy it anymore or can no longer go. Camping helps me relax and not think about my everyday routine and just have fun. I think that if you love being outside. You should definitely try camping. If you don’t like it; you don’t have to do it again. Audience Analysis
