I always admired the women of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated whether it be family, friends or mentors. Seeing the impact that Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated made on communities, families and individuals gave me keen assurance that I wanted to align myself with college-educated women, who share the same values. The mission and purpose of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated shows the understanding of the importance in serving our community and creating an innovative way to open doors for women, children, and men also matched one of my purposes in life. Women shall not leave the powers of making a change within our local black communities throughout the world only up to men. As done many times before, it is important for women to come together to make the difference the world has been itching for.
Opening doors academically, politically, socially and economically is just the beginning of what our beautiful women have done to serve our communities, youth, and even elders. I believe that women, in general, should come together as one to be stronger in today’s society. As a young woman and student, I consider myself as strong-willed and ambitious in any aspect; never giving up has always been my key to my success. I work towards the greater good for myself and others around me. Selfless living not only fills my heart but helps fill someone’s heart with hope and makes an everlasting impact. I take great pleasure in my involvement with my school, Houston and Detroit communities. In regards to the community, I have accomplished great acts not because I was obligated, but rather because it was my personal choice. I feel that it is my responsibility to assist those in my community who are in need and to make this world a better place day by day. I am always a helping hand, whether it is through peer motivation or being an accountability partner.
I am confident that being a part of this prestigious organization, I can bring a goal-driven mindset and leadership by implementing effective strategies to help our community, whether it be locally or internationally. I believe that I have similar characteristics as other great women of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated which include dedication, faith, determination, and intelligence. I am very persistent, and I work hard to achieve my goals. I am an active member of some of many organizations at Texas Southern including the following; National Society of Leadership and Success, Student Fee Advisory and TSU Dance Company (Vice President). I believe that my current achievements, as well as my future goals, go hand in hand with the fundamental purpose of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated. As future goals include attending nursing school after college, sitting for NCLEX-RN ( National Council Licensure Examination) and on to obtain my masters in Midwifery Program. Like many women in Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, I to am an achiever and strive for excellence in everything I do.
