PERSUASIVE SPEECH OUTLINE Topic: Organ Donation Specific Purpose: To persuade my audience to donate their organs and tissues when they die and to act upon their decision to donate. INTODUCTION Attention: How do you feel when you have to wait for something you really, really want? What if it was something you couldn’t live without? Ladies and gentlemen I’m here today to share with you my views on organ donation, in the hope that you will take them on board and give someone the ultimate gift after you have left this earth- the gift of life.
Ladies and gentlemen, at this moment in the US there are 79,000 U. S patients on the transplant waiting list. Three thousand a month are added to this total. Not a lot you may say when the population is close to three hundred million, but now add twenty to thirty family and friends to each patient, and the number increases vastly. One of the people on the waiting list for an organ transplant might someone you know. BODY (NEED): People around the world but also right here in the US, either in Oregon, Washington, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, and Illinois, need organ transplants and they need our help.
The problem is that there is a lack of organs and organ donors who make organ transplantation possible. b. A new name is added to the national waiting list every 16 minutes. That means that 3 people will be added to the list during the time we are in class today. c. You can choose to donate any needed organs or you can specify which organs or tissues you wish to donate. Organ donation is very important. a. The following poem by Robert Test entitled, “To Remember Me,” shows the importance of organ donation. “Give my sight to the man who has never seen a sunrise, a baby’s face or love in the eyes of a woman.

Not only is this a problem nationally but also it is a big problem right here at home in the Northwest. Transition: I’m sure that you can see the need for people like you to donate your organs.
The majority of this class has already said they would like to donate their organs when they die. But you might be asking, well, how can I make sure my organs are donated after I die? Let me tell you. B. This is how you go about making sure your organs are donated. Talk with your family about your decision. They will be involved in the donation arrangements when you die. If they do not know your wishes of becoming a donor, your wishes may never be carried out. Mark your driver’s license so that your license indicates your intent to donate. Each state varies. a. Fill out, sign and carry a uniform donor card with you. . Transition: You can see that it isn’t difficult to be an organ donor. Now let’s look at what may happen if you choose to donate your organs and what may happen if you choose not to. C. Organ donation benefits both the donor’s family and the recipients. If you do donate your organs, your family and the people who receive your organs might benefit in a similar way like this family.
A seventeen year old died of head injuries in a car accident. His mom decided to donate his organs. His heart went to a prison chaplain; his kidneys went to a mother of 5 children and a Vietnam vet. The Vietnam vet is “energetic” and finally is getting his college degree. The teenager gave life to others and his family feels a sense of satisfaction and comfort that other lives have been touched by his (University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics 1991 brochure). The problem arises when you are thinking about becoming a donor but never do anything about it.
Then, no one knows your wishes and your organs will not be donated. The consequences of this are more people waiting for organs and there will still be an incredible shortage of available organs CONCLUSION: A. Brake light/Transition: As you can easily see, donating your organs can be one of the most important decisions you ever make and also the greatest gift you could ever give. B. Summary: I’ve told you about the need for organ donors in our area, how you can become an organ donor after you die, and finally, how your family and organ recipients benefit from your onation. You become a donor by talking to your family and making sure they know you want to be a donor, fill out and sign a donor card, and indicate your wishes on your driver’s license. *C. Motivation*: What if the person waiting on the list needing an organ transplant was someone you loved? Imagine if you had a brother or sister who had unexpectedly died and you were able to meet the person who received their heart, for example. Think of the satisfaction and possible comfort knowing that your brother or sister provided life for somebody else.

Most children wish for a trip to Disney or anywhere to visit.
But in some cases a child could only wish for the love of a parent or a guardian. Thesis Statement: Child abuse is very mournful subject, but it’s something that needs attention and to be known, and it also needs a solution. Let’s begin with the meaning of child abuse… Body: I. What is child abuse? Child physical abuse and neglect occurs when a child’s physical health or welfare is harmed or threatened by the acts or omissions of his or her parents or caregivers. Harm refers to inflict of physical pain, resulting in injury, disfigurement or impairment of any bodily organ or death.

According to the National Child Abuse and Neglect Data System, the number of children who were reported to be abused is 3. 6 million and about 6 million children were reported to local child protective services agencies across the country. 1. Children who are most likely to suffer abuse and neglect are around the ages of 18 months or younger. So it’s more than obvious that there is a reason behind of all the violent acts and crimes. Transition: Now that you know a little more about how many children suffer this abuse in our country, let’s move on to see how it affects them in their life. II. Some cases were child abuse was taking place, was because of a parent mal influenced their children. A child’s future depends highly on how a parent or guardians communicate with their kids. A.
Not only is physically hurting a child, abuse, but to the minimal, neglect, is abuse also. 1. Neglect is failing to provide food, housing, clothing, medical care, supervision, emotional support and education. 2. In this case 70 percent of children are neglected and is most common but, not well known. Leaving children feeling useless, unwanted, and unloved can lead to depression later in life, causing the victim abuse to become the suspect of their own maltreatment. B. The impact of child abuse and neglect is often discussed in terms of physical, psychological, behavioral, and social consequences. . Physical consequences, maybe as damage to a child’s brain, can have psychological implications such as a mental process delays or emotional difficulties. 2. Psychological problems often manifest as high-risk behaviors. Depression and anxiety, for example, may make a person more likely to smoke, abuse alcohol, or illicit drugs, or overeat. High risk behaviors, in turn, can lead to long term physical health problems such as cancer and obesity. 3. Some of these children will grow up only being the reflection of what they once feared.
Transition: Not only being aware of this abuse is sufficient, but taking action into it and helping one in many children. III. So what can we do to help these children and stop child abuse? A. As a victim himself of child abuse, he leaves many children with strong hope. Unfortunately some children are not able to recover, but for those who do, it is because they received help and are offered love by those who truly care for them. . As not many children are able to stick up for themselves, overall they are defenseless, but you as an adult, aren’t. We can help a child by speaking out for them and letting their problem be known. B. Child abuse does not go away on its own, but 90 percent of child abuse is preventable. 1. Child abuse is a problem no one really talks about. Abuse and neglect are the number 1 cause of injury to children in the country. More children die of abuse or neglect than of natural causes. 2. So the main way to help a child is reporting an abuse if you suspect it’s happening.
A child will probably not understand, but will be truly grateful later in their life. Conclusion: In conclusion I. Your childhood might have been way better than most of these kids, but is it really all the materialistic things that are important? To these children it’s the love of a parent or guardian that they value the most. II. You’ve learned the seriousness of child abuse and how it affects many children; the only thing left is to take action. Keep in mind that it shouldn’t hurt to be a child.
