Powerful Emotions Essay

Table of Content

Love and hatred have more similarities than we would ever imagine to be possible due to the two being complete opposites. One of the most obvious similarities between the two is that they are both felt by humans. We as humans, tend to act irrationally when it comes to love and hatred. They are both powerful emotions that could cause us to do unexplainable things out of compassion, or out of exasperation. One could possibly cause the other. For example, being in love can cause one to rely on someone else for their own happiness or state of well-being. In doing this, one establishes a sense of vulnerability and could easily be susceptible to hate once their feelings of being in love are gone. The exact same thing could happen once a person finds himself in a hateful situation. Despite these few similarities, love and hate are completely opposite of one another.

To begin with, love is encouraged by society. We are always pushed to love one another and respect each other’s decisions and views on particular situations. Although this is thought to be the better way of living life, there are some who choose to tear other’s down, rather than uplifting them. Love is thought to be able to overcome these twisted obstacles that are thrown at it; but, is sometimes unsuccessful. Hatred is destructive. It will take away any form of happiness that one had ever built up due to the product of love. Hatred is highly discouraged by society and is known to ruin the luxurious lives we all wish to live to the fullest.

Living a life filled with hatred can keep us from experiencing the true happiness in life. We will have nothing to share with the ones that love us, we will only be able to take from them and project our own hatred onto them. We will consume their time with our hateful talk and turn their kindness into regret. In the end, we will have destroyed anything that has ever meant anything to them and leave them with nothing but room for hatred.

Love is not always as astonishing as people make it seem. Love can hurt, just as hate can. It hurts when the person you love more than anything ends up causing you pain, or even worse, does not love you back. Similar to love, hatred can bring invigorating feelings as well. A fine example of this is hatred towards a rival. We want to defeat them, no matter their feelings, so we could uplift our own spirits and prepare for the next rivalry.

These two emotions have the strength to be a consuming power. We could love someone one minute, but the second they mess up or inflict pain upon us in any way, we feel so much hatred in such a small moment. We can love someone so much, but also hate everything about them at the same time. Without love, there is no hate, and without hate there is no love. There may be a fine line between love and hatred, but in the in “love conquers all.”
