Aristotle was one of the first people to develop a theory about atoms. He believed that atoms were the smallest things in the universe and that they could not be divided. Aristotle also believed that all matter was made up of four elements: earth, air, fire and water. He thought that earth was the heaviest element and water was the lightest element, which meant that air and fire were in between them.

Actually, Aristotle also thought that each element had a natural place in the universe. Fire was at the top because it is hot and light, while earth is at the bottom because it is heavy and dark. Earth is also dry and cold, while air is wet and hot. Water is midway between these two extremes because it’s wet but not too hot or cold.

In fact, Aristotle’s theory about atoms is similar to modern atomic theory, but there are some differences between them. For example, modern atomic theory states that atoms are made up of protons, neutrons and electrons; however, Aristotle did not believe that there were any subatomic particles within an atom.

Aristotle also believed that everything had a natural place in the world and everything had its own purpose in life. This idea is called teleology and it means something like “the study of purposes” or “the study of ends.” In other words, it means what things do best (or what we desire most).
