Updated: November 28, 2022
The turning point in Romeo and Juliet is when Romeo is banished.
Detailed answer:

The turning point in Romeo and Juliet is when Romeo kills Tybalt.

This act of violence causes Romeo to be banished from Verona. He then returns to Mantua and begins a secret relationship with Juliet. The two lovers profess their love for each other, but they must keep it a secret from everyone else. However, Romeo’s cousin Benvolio discovers their love affair, so he tells Friar Lawrence about it.

Friar Lawrence advises Romeo to go back to Verona and try to win Juliet’s hand in marriage. He also advises him to fight Tybalt again if he has the chance, because Tybalt killed Mercutio (Romeo’s best friend).

The Friar helps Romeo get back into Verona by disguising him as a masked Capulet guest at the ball where Juliet will choose her husband. Romeo sees Juliet dancing with Paris, but she doesn’t recognize him because he is wearing a mask. When Tybalt arrives at the ball looking for trouble, Romeo attacks him instead of Paris, who runs off in fear of being killed by Tybalt’s sword.
