The Cyclops is a giant who lives on an island surrounded by the sea. He has only one eye in the middle of his forehead, from which he gets his name (which means “round”). He is violent and cruel, but also very curious about people and the world around him. The Cyclops invites Odysseus back to the island because he is curious about who this man is that has come to his island. He wants to know what kind of man his guest is and why he came to his island. The Cyclops also invites Odysseus back so he can learn more about him and what he looks like.

The Cyclops tells Odysseus that Calypso did not want him leaving her island because she loved him so much, so she kept him there for seven years before allowing him to leave.
The Cyclops then invites Odysseus back to his cave so they can eat together. However, instead of inviting him inside his cave where it would be warm, he tells Odysseus that they will eat outside under the trees where it is cool
