Reagan had one sibling, his older brother, Neil. As a boy, Reggae’s father nicknamed his son “Dutch”, due to his “fat little Dutchmen”-like appearance, and his “Dutch boy” haircut; the nickname stuck with Reagan throughout his childhood. Reagan enrolled at Eureka College in Illinois on an athletic scholarship where he majored in economics and sociology. At Eureka, he played football, ran track, captained the swim team, served as student council president and acted in school productions. In 1938, Reagan co-starred in the film Brother Rat with actress Jane Woman. They later went on to marry each other on January 26, 1940.

Together they had two biological children, Maureen and Christine (who was born in 1947 but only lived one day), and adopted a third, Michael. Following arguments about Reggae’s political ambitions, Woman filed for divorce in 1948, citing a distraction due to her husband’s Screen Actors Guild union duties; the divorce was finalized in 1949. He is the only US president to have been divorced. Reagan met actress Nancy Davis in 1949 after she annotated him in his capacity as president of the Screen Actors Guild to help her with issues regarding her name appearing on a communist blacklist in Hollywood (she had been mistaken for another Nancy Davis).

She described their meeting by saying “l don’t know if it was exactly love at first sight, but it was pretty close. ” They married each other on March 4, 1952. They had two children together whose names were Patti and Ron. Before President Reggae’s terms in office, the country was going through many tragic events such as the Iran hostage crisis, the 1 979 energy crisis, the Three Mile Island nuclear accident, the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, the United States boycott of the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow and the eruption of Mount SST Helene in Washington state during the previous president Jimmy Carter’s term.

Reggae’s opponent in the presidential election of 1 976 was President Gerald Ford. In the 1976 election, Reagan brought up the issues of the dangers of nuclear war and the threat of the Soviet Union. In the 1 980 election, Reggae’s opponent was President Jimmy Carter. In the 1 980 election, Reggae’s campaign focused on lowering taxes to improve the economy, less government interference in people’s lives, states’ rights, a strong national defense, and restoring the U.

Reagan had to deal with foreign affairs such as the suicide truck attack leading to American soldiers to go to Lebanon. Also when the Marxist-Leninist government in Grenade was established leading to American soldiers to invade Grenade, bombing Libya when a bomb exploded in a Berlin discotheque, resulting in the injury of 63 American military personnel and death of one serviceman.

Another affair was the Iran-Contra affair which was a political scandal in the United States that started in November 1 986 during the Reagan administration, senior Reagan administration officials secretly facilitated the sale of arms to Iran, the subject of an arms embargo, in which U. S. Officials also hoped that the arms sales would secure the release of hostages and allow U. S. Intelligence agencies to undo the Nicaragua Contras, which under the Poland Amendment, further funding of the Contras by the government had been prohibited by Congress.

Lastly, the Cold War which was an arms race between the United States and the Soviet Union. The Cold War was an issue in both terms for President Reagan but it finally came to an end when Reagan and the leader of the Soviet Union, Mikhail Geographer both signed the treaty to end the Cold once and for all. Reagan had to deal with many domestic issues such as an assassination attempt on him. Another issue was the air traffic controllers’ strikes in which IR controllers went on strike though it was illegal for them to do so. During Jimmy Carter’s last year in office, inflation averaged 12. %, compared with 4. 4% during Reggae’s last year in office. During Reggae’s administration, the unemployment rate declined from 7. 5% to 5. 4% which was another domestic issue. Lastly, Reagan signed the Immigration Reform and Control Act in 1986. The act made it illegal to knowingly hire or recruit illegal immigrants, required employers to find out about their employees’ immigration status, and pardoned approximately three million illegal immigrants who entered the United States prior to January 1, 1982, and had lived in the country since then.
