Religion today is an influential topic. It plays a major role in the lives of teenagers and young adults in general, and many positive benefits can come from it. For example, the young children/teenagers that declare religion is essential, are less involved in dangerous behavior, instead take part in activities that are positive such as wearing seatbelts, not texting and driving in cars, maintaining overall healthy lifestyles, and also having good sleeping habits. On the other side of the spectrum, however, the young adults that declare religion has little to no part in their lives usually are more apt to trespass and are in trouble with the law, they are more likely to use drugs, vandalize and be more apt to be sent to the principal’s office, according to Childtrends’s website. That parents and society, in general, want the younger populations to grow old, be educated, and be a part of society in some way. There was a study done on the percentage of students in the 1990’s that showed a considerable percentage of students that claimed religion plays a big role in their lives, sadly, between the years 2000 & 2010, the number of students who reported the same thing has decreased drastically from 37 to 29% (Child Trends).
This paper analyzes the position and the implication of religion that has to do with adolescence. Data for this paper was used from journals, websites, and scholarly articles. Today’s youth is in the middle of a demographic transformation. Today, there impedes to marital births, marriage, increasing likelihood of cohabitation, and stoppage in young adults moving from their parents’ homes. The statistics for the things just mentioned have been high and are yet still increasing today.
The place of religion in youth is a subject that is being highly studied today by scholars. Many are trying to figure out the sudden decline in religious affiliation among these young adults ages 18-29 who seem to be grandparents of the youth. For example, practices and assumptions are some of the key components that shape an adolescent’s practices and his or her sexual values. It has even more of an effect when young adults are ready to establish their lives and start buying homes, and cars, and make their decisions about sentimental relationships and marriage (Eggebeen & Jeffrey). Even though there is much focus on this topic today, there are still limitations to the different research that these scientists have to come across and investigate. The National Center for Biotechnology Information claims that these studies only focus on one or two dimensions rather than the broader aspect.
Religion is the belief or belief of worship an individual has of a super controlling power that resembles a personal God or gods (Dictionary). People use it as part of their traditions and value. It is true however that the youth is in decline with religion, they are more apt to be tied to cultural authority. The fact is, young adults and own in general, in general belief, believe these days see religion as something that is practiced by grandparents their parents, grandparents, and so on. They think it is for the older generation because when people get old, they tend to seek religion in their final coming days. Either it is truly what they believe in or it is something they use as an amenity or even the mere fact of death itself is terrifying to them. contradictandIncontradict and inon our country, Christianity is by far the biggest religion, heck, it is even written uncontradicted and on contradicted th back of the dollar. Many times, we witness religion as being obligatory from parents, this is yet another way that it encourages the young contradictand it, because it doesn’t give them the right to choose what they want. There are instances where parents say, ‘This is what you need to believe in,’ an the child then has to obey their parents. When they grow older, some individuals may not agree with what is being taught in their certain religions and they may have hard times telling their parents this is not what they want. Even though they were exposed to it, the child’s own individual religious knowledge and personal comprehension is one of the big key factors for its importance in their young lives. There may be times when kids may act out because o they do not agree with their religion and there may be other times when they come to understand it like they have never before and accept it. Even though, we are living in times where the majority of young adults are not accepting it.
Many youths today can agree that they feel what they are being preached and taught does not bring them what they asked for, or in short what it has promised. In my wow experience, I have witnessed and heard many claim the fact they are not religious yet they are spiritual, to me it seems to be some type of movement that is now going around that I am finally finding out about. It is as if God’s rules and commandments (relating to Christianity) are merely something these kids do not want to tolerate but want to follow their own type of forulsuccesstakeawayor them to achieve success in their lives. In their lifetime, whatever a person feels they are successful in, they want to claim that success for their own and not give credit to anyone else (especially God) but themselves, because they have worked hard to achieve their goal/desire. The biggest takeawaycontradicte to this approach is not believing in a type of God or gods, but the things that you have done within your lifetime on earth and the kind of person you are to yourself and others.
