“I want to be miserable for the rest for my life.” Said no one, ever! It is safe to say that most people want to be happy. Happiness is a key element that is part of everyone’s life. If you want to be happy you must discover what provides you with the most joy in life. We all invest different meanings in what we think the concept of happiness is. Some of us find happiness in being healthy, jobs we have, and relationships we have formed with friends and family. Others may find happiness within wealth and fame. I believe that we give happiness different meanings within certain stages that we go through in life. There is no singular universal secret to being happy, everyone determines happiness differently.
You may be surprised to learn that materialistic things rarely determine long-term happiness. That which you have always assumed would make your life much more joyful may not actually improve long-term happiness. Happiness is determined by innate factors and perceptions, as well as experiences.
When it comes to happiness the first thing that comes to mind is my family. I think that this is the first place we is where we get the upmost love and care. My family has taught many so many things. We have made many memories and formed bonds that last a lifetime. Ever since I was little my family has given me all the love and support I need to grow as an individual. My parents and siblings also influence the choices I make in my everyday life.
I can always turn to depend on my family in times of need for support, motivation, and comfort. When you are down they are there for you and its always nice to wake up to a smiling face in the mornings knowing that they will love you no matter what. I don’t just depend on my family when I need something, but they are the first ones I want to share my accomplishments and joy with. My family is what I hold nearest to my heart and couldn’t imagine where I would be without them.
Friends also make me happy. Sometimes we bicker with our friends, feel envious of them, or even gossip about each other. So why do we bother with friends? Because they make us burst into laughter when we’re down in the dumps. Because they’re there to slap us on the back and raise a glass when we have good news. And because they play a starring role in some of our most precious memories. You don’t need us to tell you that despite how complicated your platonic relationships may occasionally feel, your friendships enrich your life in profoundly meaningful ways.
Helping others is another factor that brings me happiness. More selfish motives like pleasing friends, doing what you want are more successful causes of effective volunteering. No matter the motive, volunteering improves the health, happiness, and in some cases, the longevity of volunteers. Most people who start off young volunteering are more likely to grow up to be adults who volunteer. I tend to have higher self-esteem, psychological well-being, and happiness when I help others. All of these things go up as their feelings of social connectedness goes up, which in reality, it does. It also improves their health and even their longevity.
Being halthy and exercising also makes me happy. Finding a sport or gym that you can honestly say you look forward to is one of the best ways to really make you happy long term. If you dread to exercise, then you’ll never sustain what you’re doing, and in the end you’ll feel unhappy when you no longer continue with it. Once you begin seeing results you just don’t want to stop.
There is no secret key to being happy. Happiness can most certainly be obtained and created by anyone. Instead of getting upset over things you can’t control; take life into your own hands and keep going through it with a positive attitude. Being happy doesn’t just have to momentary, if we work on living, loving, and producing what’s best for us we can most certainly have it. Life is a cycle of ups and downs and we must try our best to keep it on a positive cycle. Happiness is so important because its not just a word it is a situation, feeling, or experience. There are endless ways to achieve happiness and we only have a certain amount of time, so we need to live everyday we have to our best abilities enjoying it all.
