Should parents use corporal punishment?
There are many method to solve the discipline behavior. Corporal punishment is one of them. Some countries all around the world were banned physical punishment because it make child fear and and other don’t. Hitting child in order to make them understand rights and wrongs may be correct for some people, but it seem to make children create anti-social behaviour and some may be fear to make decision by their own. Corporal punishment should be banned. Parents should stop hitting their owns child.
To begin with, corporal punishment may be increased violence in society. Children who suffer from painful punishment might hurt their friends or people around them. Kids might become antisocial behavior because family environment. According to Bermann 2012, Physical punishment can work well in short term, but in long term it doesn’t work and can make children more aggressive(“The case against spanking”, 2012). This behavior could lead to crimes and other substances. Kids who are hit by their parents over and over again and couldn’t fought back, may be explode one day.
Secondly, some children might react in the ways of fighting back, but some kids may be too afraid to do it. They might become unconfidence and might think that their parent hate them. Treating children by make them fear is not the good ways. As long as children are not treated by love, children might feel like they are betrayal and could hate their parents.As Wolkoff mentioned that spanked child could become self-loathing adult(“Debate: Corporal punishment of children – Debatepedia”,n.d.).
In contrary, corporal punishment help discipline children. Parents will have more a control over their child’s disciplinary action. From the Bible’s book of Hebrews says, “No discipline are pleased, but painful would yields the fruit of peace and righteousness to those who have been trained by it” (“Bible Gateway passage: Hebrews 12 – Holman Christian Standard Bible”, 2009). Children will learn that what they are doing is wrong. It’s true for some extent; however, hit children might make children misunderstanding. Children may learn that adult is displeased but they don’t know why. Corporal punishment never justified as the first or even the last resort. There are many other solutions such as explanation and money deduction in order to make children understand the reasons and the cause of what their mistaken. If physical punishment is still happen, it might lead to negative effects rather than positive.
To conclude, corporal punishment should be banned in every countries. There are other solution to fix discipline. Spanked child could become anti or afraid society because of corporal punishment. Though spanking could immediately stop discipline behavior, but it might make kids be more aggressive in the future. Therefore, we should encourage to prohibit physical punishment.
