The problem of parental expectations

Table of Content

Failure in the beginning can often be a powerful incentive to reassess one’s position in wanting to achieve the particular aims; to analyses whether the purpose is worth the trouble the person has to undergo and the whether the obstacles are surmountable. Practical and pragmatic strategies must be put in place if one repeatedly fails to achieve a noble and moral objective. One must seek sound advice from the elders or those who had faced similar challenges in fulfilling the quest so that one can avoid failure or the same pitfalls. Let’s take the case of a desire to do well in an examination.

There is immense pressure from the family and friends to do well in addition to the fear and doubts whether they can fulfill those expectations. Families especially, place very high expectations on their children to perform well in their studies. Many students fail to realist their parent’s expectations and thus fare miserably in important exams. In this scenario, the affected student should not let their failure discourage them. They should seek proper guidance from external sources such as tuition centers or friends who are good at certain subjects that would help them address the underlying cause.

The student in particular must devote a bigger proportion of their time on revision and purchasing revision books that would tide them to do well in subjects they are weak in. In this way, the students has a good chance of doing well in the exam. At the same time, he or she must discuss with their parents the problems they are facing in their studies and urge their parents to be realistic in their expectations. In this way, the failure has brought the student one step closer to success. Success in his or her studies and also in the student’s relationship with his or her parents.

Therefore, I absolutely agree that failure is the first step towards success. It is better to have a few siblings than to be an only child. Do you agree? Eve three brothers and one sister and I would not have it any other way. I have a few friends who also have brothers and sisters but wish that they were an only child. There are advantages and disadvantages in being an only child and being one of many. An only child gets all his parents’ attention. He lacks for nothing. Every material comfort that the parents can afford would be lavished on him.

Whatever he wants, he gets food, clothes, toys, etc. This overindulgence may result in the child being adversely affected physically and emotionally. For example, in China today many young girls and boys buffer from obesity. This is because most of them are only child in their parents tend to dote on them. The children get more food then they need and consequently, become grossly over-weight. The problem is so widespread that there are slimming centers set up for children. An only child could also be emotionally maladjusted. He can be selfish and expects to have his way all the time.

A person with this egoistic attitude will find it difficult to get along in society. He does not know how to ‘give and take’. Another emotional problem an only child may have is pressure from the parents. All his parents’ hopes and expectations are placed on his shoulders. He is given the best education they can afford and is therefore expected to perform well and make them proud. If the child fails to do so, he may well be made to feel useless and guilty. Some disappointed parents may even go to the extent of accusing an unsuccessful child of being ungrateful.

Thus life can be stressful for an only child. Another disadvantage of being an only is that he lacks companionship. He has no brother or sister to confide in. Growing up as an only child can be very lonely. If you have siblings you ill have to share everything, so you get less; but you also get less of the bad things. Siblings can support and comfort each in times of trouble. The elder siblings learn to care for the younger ones and the younger ones learn to respect their elder siblings and have someone to look up to besides their parents.

You are more balanced person than an only child. Another advantage of having siblings is that your parents’ attention is divided among your siblings. As a result, there is less pressure on you to perform well, be it academically or in other areas. Having siblings also means that you have musicianship, the joy of caring and sharing and security. L, personally, am happy that I am not an only child. Students should not take up part time jobs. Discuss. Nowadays, students love to have part-time jobs. Their parents approve it easily as they are said to gain experience from working.

However, having a job is a big responsibility for a student. Before, teenagers at their age were working to help their family because of poverty. Nevertheless, they were actually eager to study and learn at school for their future. It was not the same as the teenagers nowadays where they are more likely competing to ACH other to have a job. Most of the students are working part-time jobs and some have the intention to work. When we are in any fast food restaurant, supermarket or shop, there are must be school students who are working.

We cannot leave this matter as we are dreaded to see that students are working instead of studying in the future. They have the whole adult life to work and we do not want to see them work very hard as they are qualified to have better careers in the future. A student should not take on a part-time job because it will disturb their routine as students, they will be distracted with extra money and freedom earned and they should be involved in school activities. First, working will disturb their routine as students. They have a lot of homework to do rather than working outside.

In addition of school homework, there is tuition they have to attend. By working, they are most likely to skip their classes if their shifts overlap their schedules. Furthermore, they will not have enough time to study. As a part-time worker, their schedules are not regular and well organized. Some of them will work till late at night and neglect their studies as well. When they are at school, they will cost likely to fall asleep and cannot pay attention in class. It also affects their performance in other activities at school. In addition, it will lead to the decline of their grades.

They will have no time to revise their learning to prepare for examination. It causes their grades fall down badly and leads to depression. Worst of all is when they are giving up in their studies and decide to work as their priorities. Hence, working part-time job will disturb students’ routine and lead to many disadvantages. Second, students who are working part- time job will be distracted with extra money and freedom earned. They are ending to spend their salary unnecessarily. For instance, girls will buy stuff like trendy dress and expensive shoes that they do not need in their age fully.

While boys tend to spend on buying new motorbikes and other accessories that waste a lot of money. We cannot leave them to be the slaves of fashion and technology. In addition, by working, they will be affected by their friends to hang around outside. Parents have given them a lot of freedom by letting them to have a part-time job outside. As they are too young, they are easily getting on with their friends’ usual activities. The parents do not know whom hey are being friends to, so it is dangerous to let them free without being controlled.
