Argumentative synthesis on Same Sex Marriage

Table of Content

“I believe marriage is between a man and a woman. I am not in favor of gay marriage. But when you start playing around with constitutions, just to prohibit somebody who cares about another person, it just seems to me that’s not what America’s about.” Barack Obama The marriage has traditionally defined between man and women. Marriage is a bond, commitment, union and legal contract for living together for rest of the life. All the religion in the world has described that marriage is between different genders. In United States marriage is regulated individually by States and all State has its own rules and regulations to implement marriage Laws. The Supreme Court decision in October 15, 1971 on Baker VS Nelson, the court said “The institution of marriage as a union of man and woman, uniquely involving the procreation and rearing of children within a family, is as old as the book of Genesis.”

God has created this universe and he has given different characteristics to man and women, man is attracted towards women, same as women is attracted towards men it is a vice versa. Women can give birth to child, not man, so God has created both of us in such a way that Man have to married to women for having children. Having Children is not the only reason of saying same sex marriage is not legal; there are numerous reasons that can justify that same sex marriage is illegal. Allowing the gay marriage will weaken the institution and moral or believes of many people. In United States the divorce rate is tremendously rising by 40% to 50%, and because of that there are 40.6% of babies which are born unmarried, that means there are many singles mom up there and it will make their life harder to raise their children without man, still this will not describe that same sex marriage should be legal. By this high rate of unmarried babies born in United States, the same sex marriage couple adopts those children whom have no parents but when they adopt them the babies have no clue that they are raising by women and women or man and man, this will make their life hard because of the society.

There is an argument between Ryan T. Anderson, William E. Simon Fellow in Religion, in which they said, “In recent decades, marriage has been weakened by a revisionist view that is more about adults’ desires than children’s needs… Redefining marriage to include same-sex relationships is the culmination of this revisionism, and it would leave emotional intensity as the only thing that sets marriage apart from other bonds.” Same sex marriage could also potentially lead down a “slippery slope” by giving people in bestial and other nontraditional relationships the right to get married. There are many congressmen and senators who are totally against of same sex marriage because they think it is not ethical and it will create big messed in the future. Some of the extremist groups from every religion they are also against because it is against the God will still there are many countries that allow and accept and give the equals to same sex couples.

Many believe that if they allow the same sex marriage then consequences after that will be very bad because after that they will ask for more rights and they start adopting babies because they cannot have by them, so they have to adopt it, so the children who are raised by them have no choice, so they will also support same thing and get married to same gender, in that case the same sex marriage will be common. There are many people who argued and debate on it, a senior counsel with the Alliance Defense Fund, Glen Lavy JD, he argued in Los Angeles Times Op-Ed, “The movement for polygamy and polyamory is poised to use the successes of same-sex couples as a springboard for further de-institutionalizing marriage.” After that in 2013 the legal plea by writer Jillian Keenan: “Just like heterosexual marriage is no better or worse than homosexual marriage, marriage between two consenting adults is not inherently more or less ‘correct’ than marriage among three (or four, or six) consenting adults.”

All these people who are arguing that same sex marriage should be illegal but still there are many states in United State where same sex marriage is legal, total are 16 states in which same sex marriage is legal, five states in which same sex legal by court decision “California* (June 28, 2013), Connecticut (Nov. 12, 2008), Iowa (Apr. 24, 2009), Massachusetts (May 17, 2004), New Jersey (Oct. 21, 2013)”, eight of the states in which same sex marriage is legal by State Legislation “Delaware (July 1, 2013), Hawaii (law will take effect Dec. 2, 2013), Illinois (law will take effect June 1, 2014), Minnesota (Aug. 1, 2013), New Hampshire (Jan. 1, 2010), New York (July 24, 2011), Rhode Island (Aug. 1, 2013), Vermont (Sep. 1, 2009)” and three States had legal same sex marriage by popular voting “Maine (Dec. 29, 2012), Maryland (Jan. 1, 2013), Washington (Dec. 9, 2012)”. “I’m not for gay marriage, but I’m not for discriminating against people.”–Joel Osteen People are also against of same sex marriage they don’t want to support it by their tax paying money, because they will get the benefits from claiming a tax exemption for a spouse and also will received social security payments from a deceased spouse and get coverage by a spouse health insurance policy. It will cost $596 million for social security to pay the benefits for the same sex marriage if they will legal it.

This will cost a lot to United State government to pay benefits to them that is also the reason for not making same sex marriage legal. Parents play a vital role in grooming their children and the kid need both mother and father, the gay people cannot give them love or care what mother gives to their kids. One of the study shows that the gay or lesbian parents are more likely engaged their children in homosexual behavior, and in other study done by different psychiatrist, observed that “25% of sampled young adults raised by lesbian mothers had engaged in a homoerotic relationship, compared to 0% of sampled young adults raised by heterosexual mothers.” The same sex marriage couple will make their own community and they will try to hang out or interact with same people and it will create a difference in a society. This is and it will become a big dilemma that everyone in the society will interact with same sex or same thought people and they will help them each other not others.

This will also affect in hiring or getting job, because same sex marriage people will hire the same though or mentality people and it will create big discrimination between those who support and those who do not support it. Paula Ettelbrick, JD, Professor of Law and Women’s Studies, wrote in 1989, “Marriage runs contrary to two of the primary goals of the lesbian and gay movement: the affirmation of gay identity and culture and the validation of many forms of relationships”. “But at the beginning of creation God ‘made them male and female.’ ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.’ So they are no longer two, but one. Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate.” (Bible Mark 10:6-9) Now a day’s same sex marriage is become one of the biggest controversial act and religious people are really against of them. They said marriage is between one man and one women, in July 31, 2003 statement by Pope John Paul 2, he said “marriage was established by the Creator with its own nature, essential properties and purpose. No ideology can erase from the human spirit the certainty that marriage exists solely between a man and a woman…”

Not only he said or only Christian is against of same sex marriage, there is many other religions that are against of it; Islam and Judaism are also against of it. Churches not allowed same sex couples come and get married in church, so they have to go to court. Any religious place will never don’t except same sex marriage. Children will be raised by only women or by only man, it will reduce the birth rate and it will create other social issues. Everyone have their own right to live but there are some rules or way to live their life, if we allow everyone to live however they want to this will create a big problem in the society. Nobody can live happily against the God will. In my opinion God have created everyone equally, so same sex marriage is not acceptable in any way, because it is just a feeling or someone is attracted towards same gender.

Marriage is a privilege, it is a commitment between two different genders and it can be successful by different gender because both genders play its own role in life, everyone wants to have their own children, so it cannot be possible by same sex marriages. If gay marriage legalized it will create problems in the society and it is hard to know now but they will see the bad consequences in the future. It will affect the new generation, when they will raised by same sex couples. Bullying and job discrimination will increase in the society because of that, it will not only affect the same sex couple but also the other mind set people.
