Throughout the U.S., you can see cultural multiplicity. People around the world have dissimilar beliefs, values, cultures, & rituals. With such a diverse-oriented setting comes obstacles in the business industry. Employers everywhere must comprehend & communicate with people from different backgrounds effectively. One must take the initiative to recognize cultural differences via knowledge & mindfulness, to adequately behave when faced with people from dissimilar beliefs. Throughout my self-assessment process, I realized that I have a 22 CQ Strategy Score, 42 CQ Knowledge Score, 23 CQ Motivation Score, and 11 CQ Behavior Scale. The higher the CQ Strategy & CQ Behavior, the higher the performance. Signifying you’re capable of making sense of intercultural experiences, make higher quality decisions, and perform at higher levels in multicultural work settings. The higher the CQ Motivation & CQ Behavior, the higher the adjustment. Therefore, people with elevated CQ Motivation better adjust to culturally diverse situations easily. As for high CQ Behavior, I have the capabilities of feeling better adjusted in a situation characterized by cultural diversity.
Strengths & Weaknesses
After conducting a self-assessment test, it seems that my strength is CQ Knowledge. In all six categories within CQ Knowledge, I placed a seven for “strongly agree” accumulating to a total of forty-two. My area of weakness seems to be CQ Behavior. Within the five categories, I placed four ones and one five accumulating to eleven. When I answered these questions, I was remembering the time I traveled to Oaxaca, Mexico, and how I learned and adapted to their culture. When I traveled to Oaxaca, I was knowledgeable of their culture such as their legal and economic systems. The rules & the numerous indigenous dialects Oaxaca natives used. I was aware of cultural values & religious beliefs. The marriage system, art & crafts, & non-verbal actions within the Oaxaqueno culture. Regarding my CQ Behavior, I wound notice the accents of others but I didn’t place an effort to reflect it. I didn’t change my nonverbal behaviors nor did I alter my facial expressions.
Strengths & Weaknesses II
Regarding CQ Motivation and CQ Strategy, they’re both an area of opportunity for me. They’re not a strength nor a weakness just more effort is required. The self-assessment has helped me realize my area of flaw. When enhancing my CQ Strategy I must be conscious of the cultural knowledge I use when socializing with people of different backgrounds. To better perform in CQ Motivation I must be capable of dealing with the stresses of adjusting to a culture that is new to me as well as being confident that I can get accustomed to the shopping conditions in a different culture. I can admit that the most difficult category to change is adjusting to a culture that is new to me. I remember being in Oaxaca for almost a month I was going insane. I suppose you can say my body was accustomed to the Arizona lifestyle. When dealing with a change of culture its certainly a stressful situation.
Learning Experience
Our first module within this course has given me a better perspective regarding my areas of strength and weaknesses. It also helps me at a personal level to better myself throughout my interactions with people of unalike background whether it be general or in a business setting. More effort needs to be placed in certain categories that I’m now fully aware of how and what to implement to rectify and strengthen my cultural intellect. It’s truly a benefit to know such data because it will minimize hostility and friction of future interactions.
