Throughout my life, I am often questioned about who I look up to. Typically, individuals such as Ghandi, Martin Luther King Jr., or John Lennon have served as significant inspirations for me in the past and present. However, there is someone my age who truly drives me – someone with a unique attribute. Unlike numerous popular celebrities of today, she never hesitated to recognize her own imperfections and the assistance she needed. Furthermore, she openly shared her personal encounters and actively motivates other teenagers going through similar hardships to seek support.
Demi Lovato, born on August 20, 1992 in Albuquerque, New Mexico and raised in Dallas, Texas, began her career as a child star on Barney alongside her best friend Selena Gomez. As she grew older, Demi starred in the Disney movie Camp Rock with the Jonas Brothers in 2008, which led to the release of her first album that same year.
Due to popular demand, Disney gave Demi her own show called Sonny With A Chance and released her second album Here We Go Again in 2009. Plans for a sequel to Camp Rock were also underway.
In 2010, Demi started dating Joe Jonas and appeared as the opening act on the Jonas Brothers tour. However, on October 30th of that year, she shocked everyone by dropping out of the tour to seek treatment for physical and emotional issues. She checked into Timberline Knolls residential treatment center where she received help for body image issues, an eating disorder, and was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. Concerned friends and family were relieved that she sought treatment after photos emerged showing cuts on her wrist.
No one was aware of any problems she was experiencing because she appeared to be fine. It seemed like she wasn’t going through anything traumatic because she made the best out of her circumstances. She had mentioned being bullied in the past but never discussed how it affected her mentally and physically. Eventually, everyone connected the dots and realized that she was seeking treatment for her past. Demi turned to self-harm as a coping mechanism and reached a point where she believed life had no meaning. “I resorted to cutting myself as a distraction. I had no care for the consequences. I had no fear,” she admitted.

Throughout the three-month treatment, I witnessed her incredible strength as she sought help and acknowledged her need for it. Her journey continues to inspire me.After learning about what led her to seek help, everyone was eager to hear the true story.
After completing a three-month treatment, Demi departed feeling joyful and in good health, with newfound confidence. Her initial interview took place on 20/20 with Robin Roberts from Good Morning America. During the interview, she delved into her motivations for seeking treatment and acknowledging her need for assistance. Observing Demi openly share her narrative and emotions left an indelible impression as the pain inflicted by bullies struck a deep chord. She revealed, “I couldn’t comprehend why they treated me so cruelly. And whenever I asked for an explanation, their response was always ‘Because you’re overweight’.” Her objective was evident – to make a positive impact on teenagers who face similar difficulties.
A few months later, Demi released her first single from her latest album titled “Skyscraper.” The song deeply resonated with me because I could hear the raw emotion and passion she poured into it. It was clear that the song held significant meaning for both of us. The lyrics conveyed a powerful message of resilience: “You can take everything I have; you can break everything I am, like I’m made of glass, like I’m made of paper, go on and try to tear me down, I will be rising from the ground, like a skyscraper.” Demi Lovato’s ability to overcome challenging times and emerge as a stronger individual will forever serve as an inspiration for me.
Demi continues to show her commitment to promoting awareness of self-harm, eating disorders, depression, and other emotional and physical disorders that teenagers might experience. As reported by www.popcrush.com, she strongly believes that “love is louder than the pressure to be perfect.” Even though she has triumphed over these obstacles herself, Demi emphasizes the importance of recognizing that there is always someone available for conversation or inspiration in her music.
