To tread upon the hallowed grounds of a successful and fruitful career, I must determine the shape that my actions will take, and trust in their finality. This, I am confident will lead me on to the roads of my destiny. Throughout my school days, I have always been regarded as an academically brilliant, have always stood in the top 15 students. My passion of mathematics and physics led me to choose Instrumentation Engineering as the undergraduate program, which passed with a first class.

Throughout my life, I have been driven by the desire to create and innovate, a capability that is always known to transcend the active acquisition of knowledge. In this era of globalization, I cited not to just get enthralled by the technological marvels, but to play my part in it. In view of such global scenario, decided to pursue Master’s degree in Management Studies as it would open the gateway to enhanced career options leading to top position in corporate world. The path, to realize the dream of being a part of globalize world, will no doubt be tough, but full of challenges, which I willfully accepted.

Finance, as a field, had always fascinated me right from my undergraduate college days. I have always enjoyed and been strong in areas that require problem solving, analytical and thematic skills, and I was anxious to combine the knowledge of, and aptitude for, these skills with my interest in finance. With these skills I joined Masters in Management Studies and specialized in Finance. During my college days I realized I have an easily approachTABLE personality. I was appointed as the Public Relations head for the inter-collegiate Technical Festival at under-graduate level.

This was the first time ever was introduced to public relations and its omnipotence. After my graduation I appeared for my post-graduation entrance exam, and had a couple of rounds of interviews. The interviewer of the Personal Interview round, had been a visiting faculty in my college. After my interview round, she asked me if she knows me, and I affirmed that she had visited my college and I was the host for the program she had conducted in my college. This was the first time I realized had a personality people will not forget easily.

After seeking admission in Masters of Management Studies in one of the top 15 colleges in Iambi, presentations, group discussions became a part of day to day activity. And I would never shy away from the crowd. I am a trained classical dancer and was enrolled in the lasses at a tender age of four. This helped me to get rid of any stage fear I would have possessed. After post graduating I joined Norma Services India Ltd. Where I would be in constant touch with the Traders in the London office. Though was new to the organization I realized the traders gave me the preference for their operational queries.

I always had an urge to work with an Indian company. Hence, I left Norma Services India Ltd and joined Infrastructure Development Finance Company, an Asset Management Company. Here am a part of sales team working with the Products team. As e need to be in Costa touch with our distributors, I have never interacted with anyone before for sales. But after my first interaction, I realized the distributors remember me. This is where I could trace my fascination for public Relations (PR) influence my interest in the same, which developed slowly and steadily into a career option.

I was also introduced to the dynamic and metamorphic consumer market as well as the PR scenario in India. I realized the need to adapt my career angle to suit its ever-changing needs. As the Indian PR scene is fast starting to resemble the PR scenario in the developed world. There is a growing recognition Of the need to co-relate the traditional outlook towards public management with the systematic organization and execution of effective communication programs to keep in lieu with present trends. PR are required not only by the Advertising agencies.

Financial firms, Operational firms have specialized PR divisions to offer diverse communication services to their clients. Over the years, several PR agencies have also been set up in India. Many PR agencies such as BMW Roger Peppier, C.V. Sandwich and Genesis PR have opted for tie-ups with foreign companies to globalize their operations, increasing the demand for a wholesome communication package other than just advertising. To my mind, a real career in Public Relations cannot be made until one studies it, not purely for its academic appeal but in the hope that it will shed light on the best road ahead.

Since the excellence of corporate communications lies in its effectiveness, there is certainly a need for academically trained professionals who are taught to be more strategic and technologically competent. However, Public relations in India is only 25 years old and is still struggling with a growing demand for its transition into a more professional and desired spelling of business. Except for a few part-time study programs, offered by median private institutions, there is very little development of PR as a separate and specialized academic and practical field of study in India.

Since Canada is a country known for its schools and advanced media systems, find the need to train myself in a specialized institute in the Canada – one that will consider my knowledge as a stepping-stone to higher education, and help me expand my horizon. An advanced skill in communication in close co- ordination with the roots of management is what believe is essentially meeting will gain, when I acquire a master’s degree in Public Relations. As browsed through the list of schools, I narrowed down a few selected ones according to their course structures.

Niagara College fulfils all my requirements of a well-designed course: adequate facilities, broad curricula, flexible course structures and practical training opportunities. I am aware that intensive study in a specialized field is a difficult task to achieve and excel at. But I strongly believe that what we persist in doing becomes easier for us to do; not because the nature of the thing has changed, but because the power o do it has increased. “Our doubts are traitors, And make us lose the good we oft may win By fearing to attempt. ” – William Shakespeare.

I know where to direct the force of my will, to ensure that my career doesn’t lay within the ruins of indecisiveness. In this decision alone, I choose the only path that shall lead me to certain success in your program. Project management Essay 1: Discuss the factors that influenced your career decisions to date. Also discuss your career plans and why you want to obtain an MBA. Since I was four years old, my father has left my mother and for Indonesia to start his excite company. He has come back to Singapore once for a year. In order to enhance our relationship, we used to talk over the phone.

As early as when was Grade 8, I possessed my first computer for the main purpose of sending electronic mail to my father. From that time, using the Internet has captured most of my spare time. In the summer of 1992, had a valuTABLE chance of volunteering in the library to assist people using computers to look for the books or to get access on the Internet. At the same time, my father’s business had been suffering from keen competition and out-dated machines for two ears. He then started to automate the production line by investing in new innovated technologies, and hiring some technicians.

When I visited him, the new automated production line and the whole computerized firm amused me, because this was the system that rescued my father’s business. Since then, my interest in information technology has been ever growing. After I came to Canada, I even use electronic mail and ICQ to communicate with my parent, and choose MIS as my core course. I found that IT is so powerful that it not only helps companies become more competitive, but also bridges people ocean apart. This arouses my desire to work in IT industry. Second, self-satisfaction also affects my career decision.

Although monetary reward is practically important in reality, opportunity to learn and job prospect are even more crucial factors for me to be really happy and satisfied. I like learning new skills and acquiring up-dated information, because they can help me adapt the fast-changing world, enrich my experiences, explore my interest, and give me higher self-esteem as am a valuTABLE person. In addition, a job with a bright prospect gives me incentives to improve myself. Thus, as come more experienced and knowledgeTABLE, I can pursue a higher level of career and help others.

This is my true happiness. For instance, I am now volunteering in an on campus organization, Job Web, in which I am responsible for posting jobs on the World Wide Web, answering questions and making information handouts. I am interested in this job because I can learn how to use a software program, can improve my interpersonal skills by answering students’ questions, and can enrich my research experience. These skills are valuTABLE because can use them in future. I can feel myself to become more productive and knowledgeTABLE.

In short run, after graduating from the Master degree, I will work in an IT related industry, either in a consulting firm or financial institution, as a system analyst or a consultant. Moreover, in my private time, I will attend a computer-programming course in order to continuously update myself and become more competitive. In long run, when I have gathered enough managerial and analysis skills and experiences, plan to have my own consulting company. Therefore, attending a Master Science program definitely can smooth my path to pursue my goal.

The program can deepen expertise and broaden my perspectives. Moreover, the MIS option can help me to specialize my skills in IT areas that I have not yet learned from my undergraduate degree. Since I have been in KIT for four years, I am familiar with and have confidence in the faculty professors whom I believe can help me become an IT professional. Essay 2: Describe two events in your life to date that demonstrate your ability to do well in business. Without this disease, might not have been initiative and willing to face challenges.

Without the chance of being a Special Event Director, I might not learn what the leadership skill was. During my six years in primary school Grade 1 to Grade 6), most of my classmates always kept distance from me and called me “alien” and I was very lonely. The reason is that had a severe Dermatitis since I was born. My arms and legs were full of ulcers, sores, bandages and scars. I always felt itchy and painful, and dared not play with others. Moreover, my hairs had never been longer that two inches and I must have to wear T-shirts and shorts in summer in order to keep my skin dry and from getting infection.

Some dermatologists even said that I was hardly fully recovered. However, my parents and relatives had not been given me up, and hey always encouraged me and gave me unconditional tenders. Therefore, I had a belief that I would be recovered one day, and thus I was eager to take any challenges of trying different kinds of medication, including Western and Chinese Herbals. Although my life in the primary school was only full of pain and lonesome, learned to be brave and to face any challenges positively.

Fortunately, during the summer vacation after graduating from the primary school, my power of resistance gradually became stronger and my disease got greatly improved. I only had some ulcers on my legs although my body was still full of scars. Since then, I realized that should change my long- lasting lonely life and should not waste my precious secondary school life. Thus, since in Grade 7, I actively talked to my classmates and helped them. I also took part in many various extracurricular activities, such as VolleyBall Team, Girl Guide and Art Club. Nevertheless, one thing I still have not changed is my attitude toward risk.

During every examination and competition, told myself that I was TABLE to do the best because nothing was tougher than the time when was in the primary school. Before I came to Canada, was fully recovered and earned a lot of friends. Although had been suffered a lot from my disease, I have learned a precious lesson that I should have confidence, initiative and not afraid of failure. When was in the SSL program in the college in Canada, I joined the Culture Club as a Special Event Director responsible for managing a group of six members in designing and organizing various functions.

Since I was in the highest level of SSL program than all of the other members, had a tendency to think that I was the most capTABLE. However, quickly found that was wrong after we completed our first function. In preparing the Singing Competition, I followed up my embers’ tasks very strictly and did not accept their idea very often. This turned out that I finished most Of the jobs by myself and my members only assisted me in the minor tasks. The outcome was that we only had four days to promote our activity, only ten people joined the competition and the function room was not fully decorated yet.

I was very depressed, and when talked to my Club’s supervisor, she just said, “l assigned you as the director because trust you. ” was shocked. Why didn’t trust my members? They were weak in language, but this did not mean that they did not have other talents. After this lesson, I started to let my members to choose the task that they were interested in and let them finish by themselves. We also expressed our ideas freely during the meetings and voted for the best. I found that not only the preparation procedure had become smooth, but also the atmosphere among us had greatly improved.

We were happier and eager to devote much more time together. Most importantly, we became friends. I was proud to have opportunity to learn what a real leadership skills was and I believe that this skill will become my asset for my future career. Some add ones have learnt a lot on my present job. With the rest of my team, I have analyses markets and examined supply and distribution networks for such diverse products and industries as bulk chemicals, fresh fruit exports, toys, packaging machinery, retailing, adhesives, diamonds and pharmaceuticals. Eave helped formulate entry strategies, plans for expansion and diversification; and also company business plans. As part of a team, have carried out preliminary feasibility studies; compared technology options; suggested to the Force Bank of India, a plan for improving the export competitiveness of Indian’s Chemicals Sector; and studied government schemes for their efficacy. Have studied in detail the organization structure and systems for one of Indian’s largest manufacturers of automobiles and helped in the restructuring of the company as well as the redesigning of their new systems.

These assignments have involved interaction with people at all levels of the value chain, and at organizational levels from the Chairman of a $ 200 million firm to a packing clerk earning $1 daily. They have given me the opportunity to interview a number of policy makers, industry analysts and economists in an effort to understand the functioning of, and important issues connected with, each of these industries. All this has given me valuTABLE insights into the environment in which companies operate – how they affect this environment and are affected by it.

It has enTABLEd me to observe some of the better and worse ways of running a business. Certain assignments have been thought provoking; my most recent assignment, on the redesigning of a company’s structure and systems, helped me understand the necessity of good organization structures, and appreciate the significance of systems that work well. A study on the export competitiveness of Indian’s chemicals sector rough home to me the importance of technology in determining a company’s or industry’s competitiveness.

An assignment involving the evaluation of an air freight subsidy scheme for exporters of fresh fruits raised fundamental questions in my mind about the efficacy of subsidies in improving the competitiveness of an industrial sector, and encouraged me to look at more lasting measures instead. The time limitation on each assignment has taught me to plan well, work systematically and keep my reports up-to-date. At the same time, having to defend my analyses and recommendations, during both internal discussions and presentations to linens, has taught me to think rigorously and creatively.

Our extensive use of computers for analysis and preparation of presentations and reports has made me familiar with spreadsheet, word processing and presentation packages. While the highly diverse nature of assignments has helped me gain a broad exposure to Indian industry, it has not been possible for me to study specific business and technology – related issues in depth. I realize that in order to be TABLE to do so, I need a better understanding of the various facets of management; the interlining’s between different functional areas and teen different business entities.

Equally important, need further training in research methodology. Manage the Project Better from the Start “Could, shoulder would. ” Start with a solid foundation and decrease your chances of hearing these types of statements when it’s time to wrap up your project. When a project is just getting underway, there are areas such as project scope definition, development of the project statement of purpose, project objectives, and identification of business risks that require expertise in both project management and business analysis.

Having a good handle on cuisines analysis ensures that the scope is feasible and that the correct requirements are being gathered, analyzed, and documented to meet the stakeholders’ needs. On the flip side, having a strong grasp in project management will enTABLE you to review the requirements, adjust the plan as necessary, and accurately review the ultimate solution. Control Change So, your project is up and running. You’ve defined project requirements and they were signed off by the project’s stakeholders. All you need to do now is watch your project team execute and deliver, right?

Aha no. Projects arranger that simple, and you can most likely expect that the acquirement will change throughout the project’s lifestyle; and that’s why change management is so dependent on the convergence of both project management and business analysis skills. Being TABLE to find a happy medium between conflicting priorities ? push forward to meet deadlines and stay on budget (project manager), or take a step back to champion for the stakeholders and push for the requirements (business analyst) ? is both an art and a science.

Diversifying your talents and abilities in both areas can help you more effectively manage last minute changes and make the best decision or all parties involved. Improve Communications Between IT, the Business Team, and the Project Team According to [email protected], many project practitioners have observed that over 90% of project issues arise due to communication problems. This establishes the significant role of communication when it comes to project successes. One of the biggest challenges with which project managers are tasked is making sure that their team knows what they are doing, what is expected of them, and what their priorities are.

Consequently, if the project team members do not know their tasks and how they should go bout accomplishing them, the entire project can turn into a chaotic mess. In addition to all of this, the absence of business analyst know-how could cause a lack of communication between the project’s stakeholders (customers, business line, IT, etc. ) and overall understanding of what the project’s requirements are. When this is missing, not only does the project fail to get off the ground or move forward?but essential requirements, changes, and risks could be missed and your project could fail.

Increases Your Job Security within Your Organization As the economy has tightened, organizations have decreased their project suggest; however, they still need projects to be completed, and combining the role of the project manager and business analyst on projects has been one method to help cut costs, without canceling the project altogether. A recent survey from BAA a leading authority in the business analysis field, found that an equal number of “project professionals” (a term to encompass both project managers and business analysts) feel that the project manager and business analyst role will be combined on many projects.

Unfortunately, the people who don’t have both skill sets may be the ones left in the dust when push comes to shove. Increases Your Value in the Marketplace Economic issues aside, there are many organizations with reduced head count and smaller-scoped projects. Often times, these projects cannot be cost-effective with both the project manager and business analyst involved and there will generally be one person assigned to act as both roles. Hence, companies large and small, are looking for individuals who can play this dual role and meeting these high expectations will make you more valuTABLE in today’s competitive business environment.

Challenging? Of course. But you’ll find that the payoffs are huge ? especially at your next interview! Acquire Project Success The Standish Group’s CHAOS Summary 2009 report showed us the highest project failure rate in over a decade. In 2008, 32% of all projects succeeded and were delivered on time, on budget, and with required features and functions. Furthermore, 44% were challenged (late, over budget, and/or with less than the required features and functions) and 24% failed (cancelled prior to completion or delivered and never used). Project failures are not only expensive, but can have very negative consequences for the reputation of the company and project team. How can we prevent failure? According to search, the vast majority of this waste is completely avoidTABLE and better requirements management could help. Did you know that according to Meta Group Research, 60-80% of project failures can be attributed directly to poor requirements gathering, analysis, and management? 5 While having project management skills are critical, the project can come to a grinding halt if the business requirements are not correctly defined upfront.

In order for your projects to be successful, you also need solid business analysis skills to successfully determine business requirements so all the stakeholders’ needs re met and understood early on in the process.
