Despite acknowledging my lack of writing skills, I take complete responsibility for this deficiency. As stated in previous class assignments, I made the decision to withdraw from high school in ninth grade. Consequently, I haven’t had any writing involvement except when it was mandatory for work purposes. Regrettably, rather than prioritizing enhancing my writing capabilities and overall education during the past six years, I disregarded the significance of being educated in order to attain success and a more comfortable lifestyle. However, the birth of my daughter and my aspiration to become a police officer acted as driving forces that inspired me to pursue further education.
Even though I had a bad credit history, I recognized the importance of enhancing my writing abilities to pass the screening process for new employees. In class, I learned about the intricacies of crafting different types of texts. Especially with essays, there were terms that were either unfamiliar or had slipped from my memory. Acquiring knowledge in grammar proved incredibly advantageous as it was my major weakness in writing. The lesson on utilizing apostrophes correctly left a lasting impression on me since I used to misuse them when it came to plural nouns.
Despite the overall positive experience, I would have preferred if the teaching of grammar were done by the professor rather than the students. Although some presentations were important for writing, they were not always easy to understand. Moreover, certain presentations contained valuable information; however, it was difficult for me to stay engaged as the speaker heavily relied on reading lengthy passages of text that appeared to be copied and pasted definitions. Despite this minor drawback, I found the class to be generally satisfactory. It simply made me wish I had more available time to enroll in a superior class.
If I successfully complete the hiring process, it will be crucial for me to be a skilled writer, as police officers are required to produce numerous accurate reports throughout their work day. Inaccurate grammar can significantly alter the meaning of something, making it imperative for me to strengthen this skill in my law enforcement career. This is especially important considering that being a poor writer can be rectified through dedication and effort. I am determined to enhance my writing abilities, whether it be by enrolling in another class or purchasing a grammar book. I am committed to making gradual progress, ensuring that I continually move forward rather than regress. As a result, my future appears more promising now that I have returned to school.
