Global warming is the observed and projected increase in the average temperature of the Earth’s atmosphere and oceans.
A few hundred years ago, a slight rise in the earth’s temperature ended the little Ice Age and caused extinction of species such as mammoth. Today global warming once again threatens the life on earth. The question is “Is the man endangered species?”
Global warming is becoming the major concern. It is the process in which the average temperature of the earth’s near surface increases. Though a few natural phenomena contribute to global warming, anthropogenic activities are largely responsible.
The United Nation’s Intergovernmental Panel on climate change (IPCC) predicted evils of climate change in The Copenhagen Diagnosis, a survey conducted by twenty six scientists in 2007. The conspectus of which was the quantity of carbon dioxide has increased dramatically (28% since 1990). As, forests and oceans had lost ability to clean the environment. The ice sheets, glaciers and ice caps have started melting. Greenland and Antarctic ice sheets had lost considerable mass. The Sea levels are expected to rise gravely, making flood and droughts inevitable. Thus, Global warming is endangering life on earth.
Indeed, global warming is a matter of great concern. Global warming is like the sword of Damocles hanging on the Earth. There are a several natural and human factors that contribute towards global warming. Nature plays her part in global warming. Large quantities of Methane Gas are released in Arctic Tundra and wetland. The eruptions of Volcanoes bring out ashes. The heat from the sun has also increased by thirty percent. The plate tectonics which depict the movement of continents also occur naturally and determine the influence of Climate change. These are some of the causes of global warming beyond man’s control.
