The Chief Minister later agrees to have a live interview with The Reporter to explain his action of not giving permission to the police interfere to resolve the riot. In the interview, the Chief Minister explain how difficult his job is, and while tackling the reporter allegation he challenges him to run the state as a Chief Minster for one day and experience himself the hardship of the Chief Minister, The reporter was well educated and was quite aware of the problems of the state and he resolve some major public issues that affect the populace everyday by giving the slum their rightful apartments, getting jobs for the unemployed, suspending inefficient and corrupt government officers. As the last act of the day, the reporter gets Chief minister arrested as he finds that the root cause of all the problems and corruption was The chief minister himself. Later, Chief Minister bails out, and passes an ordinance to cancel all the orders passed by The Reporter. The success of the reporter was an insult for the chief minister and he reacts it by sending his hitmen to get the reporter killed and destroys his house on false grounds This made the leader afraid and decided not to involve in politics in future but the popularity of the reporter was rocketed sky-high and people want him to become the next Chief Minister of the state. He was reluctant at first, but when he saw the huge public that were outside his house looking for some leader who can solve their very old basic issues he took part in the election and won it by a huge margin. On becoming the chief minister, he was very successful and did a lot of improvements in the structure of the state as by providing poor people houses and jobs, awaring people the importance of education and building new educational institution and building hospitals which are in price range of poor and quickly becomes an idol in the people’s eyes. He also focuses on paying taxes and ask people to get proper receipts for their shopping so that the government can collect the tax from the owners for which his nation act vigorously on the call of their leader. He also placed complain boxes in every area to listen the problem of every person of his state and take appropriate action to solve those issues and for also to take suggestion and feedback from them. This kind of leadership known as Democratic leadership which Involves a team guided by a leader where all individuals are involved in the decision making process to determine what needs to be done and how it should be done. The group’s leader has the authority to make the final decision of the group.(Business dictionary). However his growing popularity is threatened continuously by the old chief minister who tried to kill him once again during which he was saved somehow but his parents died. At that time he was broken but did not take the law in his hand. In the end, he punishes all the corrupt people of his state and the city develops under the governance of New Chief Minister and his colleagues. The complaint box where people were supposed to fill in their complaints was empty, signifying that the reasons to be afraid have been taken care of.
The leadership character in the movie was quite relatable to the charismatic leadership theory which is an extension of transformational leadership theory. Charismatic leader has a power to influence it followers and is able to obtain a special leader–follower relationship as in the movie the followers want their leader to participate in election as they were seeing some hope for change in their state. The Charismatic leaders also have a strong and effectual vision. Chio (2006, p.24) defines charismatic leaders have three core features which are an ability to predict future trends and be visionary; being a creative thinker, and showing empathy and empowering colleagues. According to House, 1977, (cited in McKenna, 2006, p.411) charismatic leaders can motivate subordinates to perform effectively without having to invoke their position of power; they have a vision and the ability to convince subordinates to support that vision. The above all qualities were found in the leader of the movie as he was visionary, he knows the importance of removing corruption from his state, so he suspend all the corrupt officers. He also knows the importance of education for the long term benefit of the state, so he invested heavily in educational institutions. He also knows the importance of tax for running the government affair, so he motived his people to help in the collection by asking receipt from the shopkeepers. As he was well attached with his followers, they blindly act on their leader call. He was also a creative thinker as he quickly finds out ways for giving employment opportunities to his people. The other most important characteristics which are find in charismatic leaders are determination, energy, self-confidence and ability; in addition they are not afraid to be unconventional (McKenna, 2006, p.411).They also have a heroic and unselfish quality which enables them to persuade followers to pursue goals almost unquestioningly. Chio (2006, p.36) reports that there can be very strong emotional bonds between a charismatic leader and their subordinates and in certain situations individuals may ‘sacrifice themselves for the sake of the group to maintain harmonious relationships with others’ They also hide undesirable characteristics such as dishonesty and greed. In the movie the leader loss his parents but he did not take the law in his hand. He follows the normal procedures for arresting the culprits and did not use his special power for his own interest.
