Teamwork is when a group of people work together for the same interest. They are different types of teams. Examples of teams are formal and informal teams. Formal teams are usually created to perform certain tasks which are carried out in an organised and in an official manner. An example of a formal team that would be put in place would be if a senior management of an organisation created a team to focus on particular areas on a business such as public relations. Informal teams are the opposite of this and are usually carried out in a relaxed and casual environment where nothing is official or prepared by the team.

Examples of informal teams include a group of friends playing football during their break times in a school. This is because this is not anything official and is not sanctioned. Advantages of having a formal team is that anything said and done will be more official. Also people will be more willing to make points to influence something which would be taken into more of a consideration. Lastly things in place will be more organised which will help the team members to prepare.

Advantages for informal teams is that unlike formal teams, things will be taken less seriously which will mean they will be less pressure on the team members, which will mean that informal teams are not restricted on saying certain things and can speak freely. Lastly another advantage of formal teams are that less time and money will be spent on doing certain activities. (Usually advantages for formal teams are disadvantages of having informal teams and the disadvantages for formal teams is advantageous for informal teams and vice-versa) Another common team are permanent and temporary teams.

Permanent teams are teams that will work continuously with the intention to work together for a long time. An example of this are teachers as they will be working together continuously together and won’t separate after just one lesson. Temporary teams are set up for a short duration to complete a task and then the team will separate and do other tasks. An example off a temporary team are cast members of a team as they would usually only work together for 1 film and after the film has done casting the team will then separate do other things.

Advantages of having a permanent team is that it gives the members a chance to get to know their team members and how they work, this will bring the best out of the team and will make it much more productive. If permanent teams get along well they can work efficiently and communicate with each other easier than they would on a temporary team. Advantages of having a temporary team is that if a team does not work well together they will only have to work for that task and not for a long period of time.

Also since they will not usually know the other workers on their team they would be less social communications which will mean that work can be done more efficiently. Lastly for the individuals in a temporary team it will give them more contacts to an industry. (Usually advantages for permanent teams are disadvantages of having temporary teams and the disadvantages for temporary teams is advantageous for permanent teams and vice-versa) The last type of team are small and large teams. This is when the size of a team has more or less team members. The size of the team will usually depend on the task.

An example of a small team is when theirs a few painters needed to paint a house. A large team includes a police team which will involve a lot of police members. An advantage of having a small team is that the views and opinions of each member will be heard well. Also by having a small team means that it would be easier to manage and easier to get in contact with each person in the team. Also there will be less distractions and easier for the workers to communicate with each other. The advantages for having a large team is that more views, opinions, suggestions and knowledge will be bought to the table.

Also the more people in a team will mean that each person will have a less workload and jobs will be done quicker. Lastly if people take time off it won’t be as problematic as it would be for a small team losing team members. (Usually advantages for small teams are disadvantages of having large teams and the disadvantages for large teams is advantageous for small teams and vice-versa) They are many benefits of having a team as team members will bring in different strengths to the table which will mean that by having a team it will make the task easier.

Another benefit of having a team is that members can help others and keep them motivated and reduce alienation. This is because if someone is sees another team member not working hard they can push them to work harder. Also by having a team it brings more knowledge and suggestions to the table than one individual would. This can help the task be done more efficiently and more productively to a higher level. Also by having a team, businesses can use each strength of every team member by setting them tasks that goes with their strength.

Furthermore, another benefit is that each member of a team would have less workload. This will mean that there would be less pressure on everyone and they can perform to the best of their abilities as they would have less workload to do which means they can focus on one thing in that time. This will mean that work will be done too much of a higher level. Lastly it will improve relationships as a team will have the same goal and this will help them develop a relationship towards one another. This will help them to communicate and support one another.
