The Commitments of a Leader in Our Team

Table of Content

Emotional Intelligence is one of the critical factors that sets star performers apart from other people as it affects how we manage ourselves with respect to behavior and making personal decisions that accomplish positive results. My emotional strengths include :

There were days when the team was a bit worried and things were not going as per plan. During that time I maintained my confidence level in both the work and our team and assured the team that minor setbacks are natural and one needs to be focused on the bigger goal/picture. As the team takes cues from us, keeping ourselves calm and confident will help the team feel the same. The objective over here is to keep everyone motivated, working and moving ahead.

If we expect the team to work hard and produce quality deliverables, we need to lead by example. There were days when my team had to stretch additional hours to get one of the critical deliverable completed. Instead of asking the team to just get the task completed, I worked alongside everyone else. The biggest motivation for the team was seeing their leads/superior being a part of them and showing hard work is done at all levels. This not only earns respect from our team, it also helps to instill the same hard working energy within the team.

The positive aura that I carry with me attracts people towards me. It is my personal experience that people like to interact more with those who have positive attitude towards life. Positivity gives me strength to tackle the bad situations with confidence. No matter what all ups and downs comes in life, positive attitude helps me tackle them with ease

Emotional Intelligence could be improved by re-assessing yourself over a period of time and commitment to change yourself to become an effective leader/person. It’s more of a self-empathy, wherein we listen to our own emotions and unmet needs with empathy. This tool can be used to get connected with what is happening within us, and to get focused so we might convey ourselves with more compassion and honesty.

Also we can improve by

  •  Accepting our mistakes and be responsible for your behavior
  •  Respond rather than react
  •  Being open-minded
  •  Be optimistic

This might be a difficult or challenging step, but over a period of time it’s more helpful. Emotions and behavior come from us-they don’t originate from any other person—hence, we would be the one who is solely responsible for our behavior. This makes it hard to get along with others as we fail to accept responsibility, we generally don’t promote accomplishment of goals nor achievement in life. When we start to accept responsible for how we feel and how we react, this will positively affect all aspects of your life and will also earn respect from others.

There is a minor difference between responding and reacting to a mail or answering a question. Reacting is an unconscious process wherein the emotional trigger relieves that emotion. Responding on the other hand is a conscious process by having a bigger picture, putting the situation in context by analyzing what would be happening and how the next step will best serve us and everyone involved. The objective isn’t to suppress or deny our emotions, but to balance those immediate emotional responses with thoughts.
