The Internet has resulted in a generation of lazy young people The internet is a source used for everyday life, and everything from social networking to researching and gaming, but due to the limitless possibilities it is a resulting cause of pure laziness. The younger generation might find themselves unable to go a day, yet alone days, without using the internet in some form whether that be using a cell phone, tablet, etc. The internet is a resulting cause of laziness because of easy access, social networking, and no need to manually do things.

The internet is used because of its easy access to an unlimited variety of information. It is common that younger people don’t find themselves researching the “old fashioned way” because the internet is a quick and simple way to do nearly anything. The younger generation has a hard time going to a library or other source because it can be a difficult and a time consuming process. For some, it is difficult to even search encyclopedias and dictionaries, etc. o try and find information on something that in seconds could be found using a search engine like ‘Google. com’. On the internet, things like the ‘presidential campaign’ can be viewed minutes after it is over because of websites like Facebook, YouTube, Myspace, and various different blogs. It is pointless to wait for a newspaper or magazine, or word of mouth when the material could be viewed in a matter of seconds. According to a survey conducted by Youth-Net, it was found that 75 percent of 16-to-24 year-olds feel that they couldn’t live without the Internet.

The report also found that 82 percent would look online for advice and that 45 percent felt happiest when spending time online. Thirty-two percent of respondents also said that they didn’t need to ask a real person about their problems as they could find everything they needed online. Less than half would give advice online, with just 37 percent saying they would give advice on sensitive issues to those seeking it online. The internet has caused many social issues for many of the younger generation.

Teens often find themselves spending hours on the internet, so called “interacting with friends” over an instant messenger, networking site, or even webcam. According to Norman Nie, a self-proclaimed Internet addict, “the web is but the latest in a long list of technological developments that have improved quality of life but restricted social interactions, and it’s a history that began with the Industrial Revolution, when the male started to leave the house to earn a living and was not teaching his son how to carry on his craft,” Norman Nie also said. Now we have very few remaining institutions that are face to face. ” The internet is a way to escape from reality for many social networkers and internet addicts; it limits actual social interaction leading to numerous amounts of mental health problems such as sleeping disorders, depression, and stress. In July, 2012, a study was conducted by researchers at the University of Gothenburg, claiming that men and women between ages 20 and 24, who constantly use the internet, have shown signs of sleeping disorders, depression, and stress during their daily lives.

They studied more than 4,100 men and women in a three year study. Did you know the average person spends on average twenty hours a week on the internet? Psychology Professor Cary Cooper, stated the internet causes mental health problems because, “People are not interacting with each other and the longer they do that, the less work meets their social needs” Cary also said, “the problem is not just sitting in front of a computer but the fact that people don’t take a break and cannot prioritize what they are doing. It is not just ‘Facebook’ people have to worry about, it turns out it is the entire internet — and cell phones, also. Any communications technology that offers instant digital feedback can mess with people’s brains by turning them into a dopamine addict, or a junkie constantly in need of the next hit, unable to power down, and even to eat or sleep, until people spiral into psychosis. Most of the younger generation has no knowledge in manually searching for things. The average younger person would prefer to email or text to communicate, but is that because of laziness?

The younger generation is so glued in to the internet some won’t even communicate by calling because it is faster (or easier) to email. However, the internet makes it a lot easier to research, or do things the easy way which is why a lot of younger people wouldn’t know where to begin to manually search for information. It is not uncommon to see a younger person searching on the internet via their phones, or other technological device for anything that pops up in their minds because it provides a quick response, instead of possibly spending hours trying to find a simple piece of information.

The younger people this generation are considerably lazier because the advancement in technology leaving younger people vulnerable to use the different tools available, and not realizing the time they consume using these tools. The internet has many features making it easier to find information in a matter of seconds, and compared to the pre-internet ere where information had to be searched for manually at a library or other source.

The daily use of the internet causes social problems because people are social networking on sites like Facebook, and not actually socially interacting with someone face to face. It leads to the conclusion that most of the younger generation don’t know how to manually search or find things because to them it is easier just to look it up on the internet which is why the internet is a resulting cause of a generation of lazy young people.
