As my first school year comes to end, even sooner than I expected due to the pandemic, this assessment provides an opportunity for me to look back at my experiences in this course. It’ll be difficult to explain how much I have grown as a writer, given the circumstances of my writing assignments, but I will make the effort to do so in this reflection. At the beginning of the semester I was extremely shy and would even sometimes avoid speaking, causing me to fully involve myself in this course. My writing reflected this shyness and I felt that I did not let myself truly shine through my writing. As we progressed through the semester this class has helped me gain a lot of maturity in a short time, and I began to feel more and more comfortable as a writer, but as i wrote a paper that was supposed to have a focus on a personal narrative that was a significant experience in creating literacy, I focused more on overly broad facts to my audience rather than describing my story and that hurt the quality of my paper.
This class provided an excellent opportunity to interact with my peers and discuss things in class with a certain sense of maturity that I had never experienced in high school, and for not fully involving myself into those events caused myself to write a poorly written assignment, After this I became a little bit worried about what college was going to be like, but was over real fast, learning exactly what professors want of us and following their guidelines. If we do what we’re told then we’ll have no problem, sounded easy right, I remember the first time I seen my grade for my first essay and it was horrifying. At the time I was writing I believed that I had everything it was asking for and it wouldn’t need that many revisions, I was wrong. I had revise it a lot of times preceding that. But, that is where I learned what this class really is and what Stephen King meant in his writing,”Reading to Write”, and it was to look really deep into my writing and see/visualize my mistakes and how and where to correct them.
But as I mentioned I had felt more comfortable as a writer as the semester went on, we began to analyze other papers and ,learning to break down paragraphs down into more details. For example, the topic sentence should be clear to audiences about what the paragraph will talk about. Then be led by any significant studies or literature work followed by your view of the controversial issue. By no means am I to protry myself as a perfect essay writer but, I have developed and improved my new skills with writing. Writing effectively takes a lot of practice and we were fortunate that we receive practice with the opportunity of revising our essays and our classmates essays. We decided what was needed to be corrected on their paper and what we needed added to our own personal essays. With all these new things i’m finally learning and getting comfortable with, i think was interferred by the unusaul circumsatnces of Covid 19.
It is my understanding that students had multiple opportunites from peer froup worl to the help from the writing center nonetheless I still believe my experiences in this class have not only become a better writer but helped me become a better student overall. This english class played a huge role to demonstrate what a college academic paper should lool like, in high school, teachers guided us through everything and we were never on our own to do anything. This class was very different, getting a feel for having class only twice a week was something very unique that took some time for me to adjust to.The structure of this class gave us a great deal of freedom on how we wanted to do things.
I feel like learning how to succeed in a college environment, what this course has given me, is something that will be very important for my continued success as a college student. Qualities such as self-motivation and a truly dedicated work ethic are things that great writers work on as they write and were enhanced as a result of me being a part of this class. These qualities will be extremely important for me in the future as I have a number of academic goals in mind that I would like to achieve before my college career is over.
To conclude my thoughts and viewings of this class, I truly did learn a lot and what other professor are looking for when hadning in a writing assignment. Despite all my misjudgments and uncoopreativeness i still feel like this semester of English has been wonderful for me to keep up on my writing skills, and go back to college. After the first copule of weeks at school I was finding out I cannot catch up, I was actually worried. However, after being in the class i’ve gotten to learn much more on what it takes to turn a successful colgeg level essay paper. Therefore, I continue to set goals to reach passing this class..
