As people lead comfortable lives, animals are pushed closer to extinction. They face constant threats like poaching and habitat destruction, which humans have the power to prevent. Unfortunately, only a few individuals take action while the majority passively observe millions of animal deaths each year. However, zoos play a vital role by acting as sanctuaries and offering protection that these endangered animals lack in their natural habitats (“Zoo”).
Zoos are essential for preventing the extinction of different species as they provide a safe refuge and contribute to the welfare of future wildlife. Through the creation of exhibits that mimic their natural habitats, zoos ensure protection and comfort for animals to flourish. These displays also promote more authentic behavior, allowing the public to witness and gain knowledge from these captivating creatures. Moreover, zoos offer animals a life of luxury that is absent in the wild.
At the zoo, animals receive nourishment, cleanliness, and monitoring from their keepers. In the wild, animals face daily obstacles in locating sufficient food. Nevertheless, captive animals are spared the worry of when their next meal will be thanks to diligent zoo keepers who provide all necessary provisions for a prolonged and content existence.
