The difference between college class conversation and casual conversation with a friend is that during a casual conversation with a friend an individual do not have to think before he or she speaks. Even though this may be the best decision to avoid confrontation, most friends speak their mind to one another with no hesitation or filter. Whether their opinion is negative or positive, they can speak to each other as they please. With that being said, a conversation within a classroom has to be well thought out with caution.
An individual should never want the others to feel disrespected during any communication. During class discussion each person should give the same respect and attention as they would intend to have. There are certain ways to respect a classmate while having a class discussion. These simple ways will help with communication as well as outside a classroom, with also speaking with as instructor as well. These certain behaviors are having empathy, being tentative and having proper responses.
When empathy is involved in an interaction with a classmate, it shows a similar respect for one another. In other word as the lesson states, treat others the way you want to be treated. By being tentative an individual should take caution on sharing his or her opinion and/or ideas. Last, having a proper response when discussing certain topics is very explanatory. A classmate should never want to make another feel like his or her idea or topic of conversation is unimportant.
