Consensus vs distinctiveness

Table of Content

Case #1 reveals that Steve achieve a good grade in his psychology class thus it could be stated that in his case there is low consensus, low distinctiveness, and high consistency. This is the perfect example of internal or personal attribution. This is because though it is necessary to attend an external attribution like attending classes for securing high grades it is far more relevant than the achievement of high grades are due to personal and internal attributions. This is why Steve’s case is referred to as a case of internal or personal attribution.

Case #2 reveals that Alba`s promotion at her workplace is due to the low consensus, high distinctiveness, and high consistency. This is the perfect example of person and situation attribution. This is because it is necessary to perform an internal attribution like work performance for promotions and at the same time it is also relevant that the achievement of promotion is due to interactions in the workplace. As a result, Alba’s case is referred to as a case of a combination of person and situation attribution. (Lamb, 2004)

Case #3 states that Indira decides to volunteer for a pet adoption agency. It has been mentioned that there is high consensus, high distinctiveness, and high consistency. On the same note, it can be stated that this is a prime example of external and situation attribution. This is because volunteering for a pet adoption agency fundamentally requires the external influence that develops from the situation. This situation arises from an external scenario and is instrumental in influencing the cause and effect of the specified situation. This is the main aspect and this should be accountable. Thus this case is referred to as a case of external and situation attribution. (King, 2006)
