‘WAKE UP! WAKE UP! WEER LATE!’ I stirred and groaned.

‘What time is it?’ I managed to say whilst yawning.’It’s 10:30,’ Tom yelled back. I hauled myself up and took a brief moment to remember the night before. Food, Sangria and a game of Pictionary, what a night.

I jumped out of bed as quickly as possible. We were supposed to be there at 10, we were supposed to be there at 10! Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.I can’t remember how we got to the airport in time or how we got the lady at the ticket desk to let us on the plane 20 minuets late. All I know is that we meet Kira and Becca when we got to our seats, how comfy the seats were and how fast I got to sleep.

I slept for about 31/2 hours after that and only got woken up when a Steward shook me awake to tell me to put my seat-belt on, I don’t know why she just didn’t put it on for me.’Hey Seb, we are landing,’ Kira and said.’Cool.’ We were going to the ‘Hotel De Roy’ in Lodeve to stay for two weeks at his new theme park called ‘San High Park’.

Apparently it boasted ‘The worlds tallest, fastest and scariest rides all in one theme park’. Our parents had paid for us as a treat because we had had a good first year in our GCSE’s.Tom was one of my best friends at school and was a real nice guy, that was when he wanted to be. He was younger than me but it didn’t show.

He was slightly podgy but not fat, he had brown eyes, brown hair and a rounded face. Becca, who was the youngest out of all of us, was tall, blondish and had short hair, she was also going out with Tom. Kira, who I fancied, was the same height as me, rather beautiful in my own eyes, had long hair brownish hair down to her waist, brown eyes and a lovely face. I was the oldest there but also the most immature at times.

I had blond hair and quaff that would have made Elvis proud. As the plane landed I could see in the distance a really tall building and could just make out the writing plastered across it, it said ‘Haunted Tower’ and it looked cool, even from that far away. I made a mental note to look for that on the map. We got off the plane and collected our bags.

‘ALL PEOPLE STAYING AT THE HOTEL DO ROY IN SAN HIGH PARK PLEASE COME THIS WAY,’ yelled a chubby man who sort of wobbled in the direction of the station.’This is going to be cool,’ Kira said as we leaped down some stairs.’Yeah, I can’t wait,’ said Tom.’What shall we go on then first?’ Becca asked Tom as she slid her hand around his waist.

‘Lovers ‘r’ us? Tom said smirking. We all laughed.’Well that wouldn’t quite work because I would have to go on it with..

yeah, that is a brilliant idea,’ I said catching on. I passed a sideways smile to Kira who returned it.By now the chubby man had lead us out of the airport and we had walked over a bridge and then into a dark station. You could only see two meters in front of you but we all managed.

We were also helped by Tom’s bag, which glowed.Suddenly a steam train hissed out steam and the whole group jumped. We were lead to our right and we boarded the train. By now the group was quiet because the beauty of the train amazed us.

(That wasn’t the only beauty that amazed me).The train jerked forward un-gracefully and I was surprised because I expected it to go as well as it looked. We waited for about ten minutes and soon we came into a station. It was called ‘San High Park.

‘ The fat men jumped off the train and walked surprisingly fast up the steps. We all followed and watched as the man turned and waited. When we got to the top, the view of the park was amazing. You could see everything, including the ‘Haunted Tower’, there were people everywhere enjoying them self’s and rides kept thundering past with screams of joy and fright every few seconds.

I felt like a young kid let loose in a sweet shop.’As you can see this is the entrance to the park, if you ever want to leave the park during your stay, this is where you go. There is a train every 1/2 hour,’ he paused for breath. ‘The hotel is over there,’ he said pointing to a medium sized building about 200 hundred yards away.

‘Thank you for your stay. I hope you enjoy it.’ The man said and walked down the steps, jumped onto the train. The doors shut and the train jerked away.

The group erupted with talk and you could hardly hear yourself think. I gestured towards the hotel and we all nodded. As we walked into the hotel we were hit by quietness and we felt obliged to talk in whisper.’How May I help you Sir?’ asked the man behind the desk.

He was a smoothly dressed man and wasn’t much taller than me.’We have booked a room’ I said politely.’Name?”Daniels”Ah, Mr Daniels. You and your friends have a choice.

A room each which leads onto a shared balcony or the penthouse room which is a shared floor with 4 rooms, a sitting room, kitchen and other rooms.’ He said this like he had said it a million times before, Mind you he probably had.’Ummmm,’ I said overwhelmed, ‘we might have to think about this.’ I said turning to the others.

‘THE PENTHOUSE!’ they all commanded at the same time.’The penthouse it is then,’ I said smiling.’Certainly Sir,’ he said amused. ‘Here are four keys, one each and some drinks and snacks will be sent up for you.

”Thank you”Thank you”Thank you”Cheers,”John will show you up,’ we went up the lift and as we were walking along the carpeted corridor we were all amazed at the size of the place, it seemed much smaller from the outside. As we turned the corner, this amazing wooden door came into view at the end of the dead end.’Is that our room?”Yes Sir,’ answered John the bellman. ‘Just slide the key in and slide it down,’ he said.

I turned to Kira.’This is wicked,’ I said. John the bellman was still standing there. ‘Oh, sorry,’ I said taking out my wallet and giving him 50 franks, 5 worth.

‘Do we have to pay in Franks in the theme Park?’ Becca asked.’No, it’s plain old pounds,’ I said watching Becca breath a sigh of relief. ‘I brought some just in case,’ I said turning the door and walking in.The penthouse was amazing.

It had everything, Satellite T.V, a small pool, a gym and such comfy seats that you could fall asleep in them for hours. The bedrooms we something else too. They had an-suit bathrooms and they even left you little chocolates on your pillow.

We almost didn’t want to leave. We all slept brilliantly that night. It was morning. I got up and still unfamiliar of the layout of the place, walked straight into a wall.

Well, I though, at least I am awake now. I was the first up; I loved being up when no one else was. It was so quiet and peace full. Not like my gran’s house in London, which had had a main-road 50 meters away.

I occasionally went there but preferred to stay at my parent’s house in the countryI now decided that I should either go back to bed or go into the gym and seeing as I wasn’t tired anymore I decided on the gym.’Hey, Mr Sexy Boxers,’ said Kira. She was standing there with her dressing gown on. She must have been in the bath and heard me get up.

‘Oh, sorry. I will go and change into something decent.”NO, it’s ok,’ she said walking past me deliberately brushing me.’You know I’ve always fancied you, I’ve just never had the guts to ask you out,’ I said feeling nervous but also having that funny feeling in my gut.

‘Well, are you going to now or not because I reckoned now would be a good time.’Will you…

.”Yes.’ She moved forward and hugged her. The I kissed her, she was a brilliant kisser.

Then I realised that to anyone who walked in on us this would look dodgy.’I must go change. I’m going for a swim,’ I said changing my mind about the gym. ‘Coming?”Go on then, meet you at the pool in 5 minuets.

‘ She said smiling; she kissed me and walked out the room. It took me about 10 minuets to find my swimming stuff at the bottom on my bag and by the time I had got changed and go to the pool Becca and Tom were already. They had obviously been told because both beamed at me when I walked in.’So we will be able to go on lovers ‘r’ us after all,’ Tom said grinning and we all busted out into laughter.

I jumped in and did a length of the pool. It was lovely. After the swim we all had breakfast and discussed what we going to do. I suggested that we go on the ‘Haunted Tower’ and everybody agreed.

We left at 10:30 and hired a buggy because we were all tired. Driving through the park gave us an idea of how massive it was.We got to the tower at about 11:30 after stopping on the way for various small attractions in which Tom won Becca a teddy bear and I won Kira an apparently gold ring but it wasn’t real so I promised to buy her a rear one later. I had some money saved up from a summer job and I was waiting to spend that on a good cause.

The tower was massive. We didn’t cue because with the tickets we got a pass that let us to the front of the cue so we just walked in. As we walked in it got dark and spooky. We were guided by a woman dressed in a dark witch’s costume which look very real, she had a hat with dark purple stitching, a frock like dress which hung all the way down to her feet and had matching purple stitching, she also carried a broom stick which I though was over the top but it obviously did the trick because people didn’t ask her questions.

They just hushed up and followed her. We were lead to some lifts and for the first time the witch lady spoke, well I say spoke but it was more hissed at us.’When ye lift reaches the heavens and the doors open, ye is got to get out as fast as ye can, but beware, horrible monsters wait behind every corner and lurk. They want ye blood, and be warned again, if ye fail to get back here before thy hour is over.

You will suffer; evil thingas will come out and hunt you down. Ahh ye, and don’t forget, beware of the voices’. With this she stalked off and we were left on our own, the group divided up and each entered a lift each, there we five in total and we were in No. 2.

The lift was a bit dull but we were all quite because we were all trying to imagine what was going to be chucked at us.The lift door open with a ‘ding’ and we stepped out. We were in a dark room with four corridors in front of us.’Which one do we take?’ I asked.

‘The first one!”The third one!”The second one!”Err, I said which ONE shall we take, not which three shall we take, hmmmm, let me see.”Hey, look at those pictures about the entrances,’ Tom said pointing to 4 little symbols above the entrances. I recognised 3 of them, the Dragon, the Tiger and the Lizard but I couldn’t work out what the fourth one was. I realised that it was an Owl and I knew that an Owl represented wisdom; as it in it was wise to choose this route.

‘This way,’ I tried to say in a firm a confident voice.’How do you know?’ Kira said.’I am guessing and anyway if we don’t get on we wont get back in time.”You don’t believe that do you, I mean what it is that could actually get us?’ Nobody answered this and I think that in our own minds we were all thinking up monsters or something scary.

We continued on, turned left, then right, left, right and then down some stairs. All the time it seemed to be getting darker and darker. This didn’t seem right, the walls were different and it seemed that this wasn’t part of the attraction.’Er, guys, this doesn’t seem right,’ Tom said as Becca slid her arm around Tom for some comfort.

‘Your right, I will go back and see if there is a turning me have missed,’ I checked my watch, we only had half an hour left.’No, I don’t think we should split up,’ Kira said sounding worried; I stepped back and gave her a kiss.’I won’t be long,’ I walked off and stepped into the dark I walked for a bit and then suddenly this booming voice came out of nowhere. ‘HAHA HAHA HAHA HAHA HAHA HAHA’, I jumped and became very nervous.

I could hear a scratching noise, which seamed to be all around me. I was getting nerved so I decided that I would be a good idea to go back. I turned around only to face a dead end.’Now this can’t be happening,’ I said to myself, ‘This can’t be happening,’ I said again as I kicked a wall, It caved in and fell away.

I got down on my knees and looked through the gap, I could see nothing, not another room or corridor but nothing. My eyes adjusted to the dark and suddenly something came into view, I realised that I was staring straight down a 200-foot drop. I jerked back; I was getting out of here. I ran up the corridor and around a corner, and then left, right, right left, this wasn’t the way we came.

I came to a dead end and swore, I turned round as started to run faster, I had the feeling I was being followed. I began to run faster, I was out of breath badly but I kept running, I tried to listen but the blood was rushing in my ears. I stopped, I need breath badly, and I collapsed on the floor and gasped air in. As the blood cleared from my ears I could here footsteps getting nearer.

I tried to get up and run but I just collapsed again. I could hear them getting nearer and nearer, there was more then one of them and I could here their heavy breathing.’Seb, what happened?’ Kira yelled, she flung herself down to me and helped me up.’I.

‘ I managed to get out.’It is ok, we have found the exit, there is a corridor a little don’t that way, lets get out of here,’ she said. I got up, I could just walk and Kira helped me a for the first bit.’What’s that?’ Tom said.

It was that scratching noise again and then there was the footsteps gain. We all started to run. Tom was pelting and Kira and Becca were running faster than I expected. I, who had only just recovered from my stitch was doing better because I couldn’t feel my lungs so they just breathed with me thinking about it, I felt like I could sprint faster than all on the rest but I wanted to head up the rear.

The steps were still near as we went round corner after corner, Tom kept disappearing from sight as we turned a corner. We came to stairs, which we all pelted down 4 at a time. Suddenly it was light, a blinding light, we were in some kind of warehouse floor, I couldn’t tell if it was part of the zone but I wasn’t too bothered, all I was bothered with was getting to the lift on the other side of the floor. I could here the steps behind us and I looked around whilst I was running but there was nothing there.

We all got to the lift at the same time and stood there panting, out of breath, I could here the steps but I turned round and there was nothing there. The noise had stopped. The lift door opened and we all stepped into it. I pressed the ground floor button and this hideous snake came out of a hole in the floor at lighting speed and back into another hole on the other side of the lift.

I jumped beck and fell into Kira who caught me. We all busted into laughter.Suddenly, there was this massive bang, and this horrid screeching noise, the lift shock and suddenly there was this head rush, we all lost our stomach and were pushed to the side. Becca screamed, Tom screamed with her and Kira and myself yelled out in joy.

I was unsure of what to do, it lasted for so long and I was reminded of a ride at Chessingtons World of Adventure. Suddenly the lift stopped and we were all thrown to our feet. The door ‘binged’ and there, waiting, was a witch like the one that had lead to the lift. We all got up and followed the witch to the front.

The ride was over. We were all disappointed.’Well, that was some ride, Lets go again.”NO,’ we all commanded back.

Weather the warehouse was part of the Haunted Tower or if the scratching was supposed there we will never know. The rest of our stay was brilliant and we went on as a many rides as possible, Kira and myself are still going strong and so are Tom and Becca. And needless of how much it cost, we are going to save up and go back next year.
