Not long ago, I was planning on being a student at Montgomery College, and now I am one. Amazingly, this showed me that time really flies. Being a college student is different since I got to become an independent person. It was my first time studying in a college and taking college courses. During the semester, I had many challenges, and I learned a lot from them. I have learned several things throughout this course that will help me in the future, as I will make my way to college, and that will help me grow as an individual, as well.
Firstly, writing is an important skill in college courses, but I was never good at writing. Looking back at English 101A, I have realized just how much my writing has improved since the beginning of the semester and that first assignment. Having a lot of fragments and run-on sentences. I went from being a writer who had no confidence in his work; to a writer who can quickly and effectively write an essay revising it somewhat better than I use too.
Secondly, I can show off what I have learned from this class, and show off just how much I have improved as a writer. The work that I selected shows that I have made incredible progress this year. At the beginning of the semester, there were many things that I had to revise in my essays, and they took me twice the time to fix. So, writing a perfect essay become my goal. However, by the end of the semester, my work has become much simpler and my writing, in general, has become much stronger as well.
At last, I learned how to write MLA style papers with citations, and this has helped me, come out of my fear, how to cite quotations correctly and how to use quotations in my writing. I used to make mistakes on papers, but now, I have mastered MLA style, and I believe I can master other citation styles too. This will help me in just about every class I will take in the future here, as many other classes except science use this common form of citation except science, so I had to learn a skill that will appreciate me for many years.
In my opinion, the secret of writing is to discover the details of the topic we choose. Good topics let us relate to ourselves. By doing this thinking of ideas created come easily. All in all, I had a great semester at Montgomery College. I hope in the coming semester, I will have more obvious progress. And I am looking forward to the next semester and to meet more new friends in English 102. Which will be more difficult, but I will try my best in it!
