Chris Smith a representative for New Jersey once said, “The most dangerous place today for a child is in a Planned Parenthood clinic”. The purpose of a Planned Parenthood clinic is to provide women and men health services to start a new family. A Planned Parenthood clinic is also where a woman goes to have an abortion. Abortion today in the U.S. should not be overlooked by society. The history of abortion has a lot of negative aspects such as: the cost of abortion, abortion is not murder, and abortion should be legal. Pro-Life is the stance that society should take on the issue of abortion rather than Pro-Choice.
Abortion is the termination of a pregnancy. It is required that ages eighteen and under has to have a parent consent in consonance with the Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act of 1971 to have an abortion. The permission of abortion is until twenty weeks, but afterwards is illegal with an exception of a court authorizing it as a late abortion. Consequently, abortion has many side effects that undergoes women attention. Some symptoms may include menstrual-like bleeding, and a range of emotions. One woman named Ruth stated, “I was on the floor and pain was crippling me”. Her abortion procedure was one she will never forget and she regrets the decision that was pressured upon her.
In the year of 2006-2015, the abortion rate has decreased to twenty-four percent ranging from 842,855 abortions in 2006 to 638,169 in 2015. There are two methods of abortion, which is the medical pill or the in-clinic surgery. Both methods are very costly unless health insurance pays for the bill. The medical pill has to be taken every so often hours, and the surgical procedure causes for a suction aspiration. According to the Planned Parenthood, “cost at health centers ranges from about $350 to $950 for abortion in the first trimester”. Both methods are safe and effective if taken carefully which is what the government states.
If a person is charged for a murder that didn’t intentionally try to kill the victim, why is it that abortion is not tried as murder? Under any circumstances neither should a mother and father make a decision as to dispose of their own unborn child. According to True Life, “an unborn child can be legally counted as murder if there is premeditation, malice involved and done without legal authority”. This statement is saying who is to say that a mother didn’t think of killing a child intentionally. Abortion is not the right choice to “murder” an unborn child. There are many ways beforehand to go against this dilemma.
Roe vs. Wade is a Supreme Court case that fought for women’s constitutional right to terminate their pregnancy. Antonin Scalia is an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court. Scalia once stated, “My view is that regardless of whether you think prohibiting abortion is good or whether you think prohibiting abortion is bad, regardless of how you come out on that, my only point is the Constitution does not say anything about it”. Scalia is significantly saying that if the Constitution did not approve of this matter then why should we.
