Odysseus was a legendary Greek king of Ithaca and the hero of Homer's epic poem the Odyssey. Telemachus is Odysseus' only son and heir.
Detailed answer:

The first person we meet in Homer’s Odyssey is Telemachus, the son of Odysseus. He is introduced to us as a young man who has grown up without his father around to guide him and protect him.

Telemachus was born during his father’s twenty-year absence from Ithaca. His mother, Penelope, raised him alone on the island of Ithaca while her husband was away at war. She never remarried because she was waiting for Odysseus to come home and take back control of their country.

Telemachus was raised by Penelope and Odysseus’ loyal servant, Eumaeus. Eumaeus was very fond of Telemachus and treated him like one of his own children.

When Telemachus grows up he becomes an accomplished warrior and has fought alongside his father in many battles. He also becomes an intelligent and resourceful young man who wants to help his mother find a new husband so that they can rule together over their people once again.
