Whenever I travel abroad, I try to eat out as much as feasible, and order dishes of national cuisine of the province or country I am visiting to be able to explore into the local culture more deeply. So, over all the years of travelling around, I have been to a several number of noteworthy and fascinating restaurants that impressed me a lot. If I were to make a list of the most monumental local restaurants and cafes that I have visited abroad over the past 4 years, New Zealand’s yellow Treehouse would indubitably make it to the top of the list.

The restaurant is located in the Warkworth woods, about a thirty – minute drive to Auckland. The place is essentially what its name stands for – a wooden tree house built 10 meters above the ground on a Redwood tree. If you think it’s not something special, you are very wrong. The restaurant is very refreshing looking and it does not seem like anything I have seen before. From the bottom it looks like a small onion – shaped knag in the center of the tree trunk which is softly lit up with yellow and orange lights.

Furthermore, it has an exclusive wooden bridge leading to it that joins the restaurant with a bunch of the neighboring trees and also is illuminated. The place looks exceptionally delightful at night, and the walk at the bridge to the cafe is really something! In addition to this, the place inside feels quite different what it looks like from outside. The seemingly fragile construction made of thin and flexible wooden bars, bent from the middle to form dome shaped construction, appears to be very cozy and comfortable inside.

What I liked the most about the construction is the fact that not only it is located in the woods, far from the roads, haze and city noises, surrounded by nothing but the trees and local fauna, it is in fact built exclusively of natural materials. Further, whole of construction is very reliable and simple in its interior and exterior design, yet undoubtedly very well though – out. The restaurant is meant to serve up to 35 customers at a time, and to me is an ideal place for romantic getaway or a family celebration like an anniversary, a wedding, a small engagement party or a birthday.

In the end, the chef of the place does a great job as well; even the dishes we ordered were very well cooked, mouthwatering and enjoyable. Their main menu consists of the local cuisine, and a great selection of New Zealand’s red and white wine. Overall the food was very tasty and the service provided by the unobtrusive, yet active and very polite, waiters was an outstanding addition to the overall lovely experience.

The place is a must-eat-in, or a must-see, to those who are visiting the country and looking ahead to get the outlook of the most vibrant impressions. On the other hand, the rest of the world is running towards building up the highest and ugliest concrete-glass skyscrapers, whereas New Zealand is coming back to the roots, both speaking and figuratively speaking, with an exclusive wooden tree house that reminds us all that going back to the foundation will always be the ultimate solution.
