Table of Content

My name is A and I am a grade 7 student at SMHS. My family and I immigrated from Nigeria to Quebec, Canada in August 2014. In 2017, we relocated to Ottawa, Canada. Staying in Quebec allowed me to become fluent in French. Moreover, staying in Canada assisted me in developing my teamwork, responsibility, determination, and responsibility skills. In my essay, I will discuss the distinctive skills that I bring to the program and explain why I am the perfect candidate for the Legislative Page program.

In October 2016, I was determined to participate in my first cross-country race, despite my parents’ concerns about its safety. Using my persuasion skills, I convinced them to let me join. Additionally, I had to display perseverance to earn a spot on the team and finish the race successfully.

From September 2017 to July 2018, I took on the responsibility of escorting my siblings to the bus stop every school day. This experience enhanced my understanding of accountability as I made sure they returned home safely.

In elementary school, I participated in the school’s handball and basketball tournament in March 2018, which helped me develop my teamwork skills through effective collaboration for victory.

Moreover, from November 2017 to April 2018, my grade 6 class conducted a fundraiser for Jumpstart. Although divided into groups, my group often got distracted and deviated from the main topic.

Taking the initiative, I brought my group members together and we successfully completed our assigned task. At SMHS, I became a member of two clubs: the Red Maple Book Club and the Art Club. Joining the Art Club allowed me to enhance my independent skills as I had to create artwork on my own. In January 2019, my grade 7 class participated in a drama project where I was selected as the leader after expressing my interest in the role. Consequently, all members of my group received high grades. This experience greatly improved my leadership abilities.

Skills and dependability are qualities that I have developed through various experiences. One such experience was being relied upon by my group members to help them achieve good grades. Additionally, at home, I play a significant role as a helper. Every day, I wake up early to prepare my sibling’s lunch boxes and assist in getting my younger siblings ready for school. Through these responsibilities, I have honed my ability to be dependable and responsible.
Since moving to Canada, I have also been serving as an altar server, which has taught me essential communication skills, both verbal and nonverbal. Furthermore, this role has strengthened my independence as I often carry out the duties on my own.

To summarize, my independence, responsibility, and ability to work well in a team make me an ideal candidate for the Legislative Page program. I have consistently shown loyalty and dedication to serving Canada since my relocation. Joining the Legislative Page program will allow me to further extend my service. Thank you.
