My greatest strengths as a nurse are my communication skills, Delegation, Empathy and Compassion and Honesty and Trustworthiness. Among the above mentioned skills, I consider my greatest skill is the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing records and reports. By making use of my verbal communication skills, I can able to develop a healthy relationship with my clients as well as my colleagues. Similarly with my communication skill in writing, I can write my nurse records in a clear, legible and timely manner. This practice helped me to overcome many hurdles during my practice. In particular, once one of our patient’s relative gave a complaint to the court against our whole department for medical negligence.
The legal authorities summoned every staff in my department to investigate except me, as they find every details in my nurses notes including the time of doctors rounds, new orders from doctor, treatment protocol, hourly vital signs, general condition of the patient and so on. They said they don’t want any further clarification from my side. After this incident, I got lots of appraisals from my superiors. I am also capable of building a trusty relationship with my clients as well as my subordinates by using my proficiency in delegation. With this skill, I can easily rule out the strengths and weaknesses of my colleagues and can educate them to overcome any work related stresses (Green value college, 2020) I always possess great empathy and compassion for my co-workers and patients. By make use of this ability I could not only understands the diagnosis and treatment process of my clients but also it helps me to recognize their physical, mental and spiritual difficulties and can provide care accordingly. (stone.j, 2019).
I always maintains honesty and trustworthiness throughout my profession. Even if I did something wrong, I will inform my superiors at once. Similarly if I find some of my co -workers are doing any errors I will also do the same.
However I have good practical skills in nursing, I am not that updated with the current trends in nursing. I know in this digital world, every nurse should have efficient technical knowledge and should be updated with current trends in nursing. By taking Nursing Leadership And Management course at Seneca college, I am confident that I can achieve my goal. I am a person who cannot say ‘no’ to my fellow workers. Therefore sometimes I have to do their work also. So many instance by helping others, I have to stay long hours even after my shifts in order to complete my works. I can overcome this difficulty by creating good time management skills. Instead of doing work for my companions, I will arrange some seminars and workshops with the help of my superiors to educate them thus I can resolve this problem to an extent. Although I am an excellent nurse practitioner, my leadership skills are yet to be improved. I will certainly become a great nurse leader after completion of my nursing leadership and management course at Seneca college as I am getting supervision from great experienced professors and this will help me to enhance my critical thinking skills and ability to make decisions. (Timmons.b,2020)
I am little workaholic in nature. If I need to complete any projects or assignments I will work continuously for that without taking a break. Even though this will make my works done on time, sometimes, I have had some health problems due to the over work. By taking regular break times I can not only maintain my health but also can able to improve the productivity of my work.
