Should Vaccines be Mandatory

Table of Content

No United States federal law exists, but all fifty states have laws requiring children who attend public schools, private schools and daycare facilities to be vaccinated against diphtheria, pertussis, and tetanus, polio, measles and rubella and chickenpox. All fifty states allow medical exemptions, most states allow religious exemptions and a few states allow philosophical exemptions.

Vaccines are used to prevent illness and diseases but there are many harmful chemicals in them that can cause numerous side effects, which is why vaccines should not be mandatory. Vaccines have countless risks and long-lasting effects that may never go away. According to CDC, all vaccines carry a risk of anaphylaxis in about one per million children. Coma, lowered consciousness, long-term seizures and permanent brain damage may be related to MMR and DTaP vaccines, though CDC notes the rarity of the reaction makes it hard to determine causation. CDC address that pneumonia can be caused by the chickenpox vaccines and there’s small chance exists that the flu vaccine could be related with Guillain-Barre Syndrome. This Syndrome is a disorder which the person’s immune system attacks parts of the peripheral nervous system, in about one or two per million people vaccinated.

The National Vaccine Information Center (NVIC) states that vaccines could be associated with learning disabilities, autism, asthma, chronic inflammation, diabetes and other disabilities. Thimerosal is one of the main element people worry about the most. Thimerosal is an organic mercury compound found in trace amount in one flu vaccine for children and other vaccines for adults, that has suggested its link to autism. Aluminum is used in some vaccines and if to much aluminum gets into the human body it can cause neurological harm. Formaldehyde can also be found in some vaccines. Formaldehyde is a substance that can cause cancer in living tissue and if exposure it can cause side effects such as change in higher cognitive functions, central nervous system depression, cardiac impairment, convulsions, coma and death. There are numerous of compounds in vaccines that causes countless more issues.

Its scary to think that a vaccine can leave someone’s with life impairments that may never go away, which is way I believe so many parents should start to opt out of vaccines. Vaccines work by poking the immune system to manufacture antibodies against the bacteria and viruses, therefore preparing the body against these pathogens before they enter it. Some antibodies can respond against not only the intended pathogen proteins but also against human proteins a phenomenon called cross-reactivity. A 2015 study published in Science Translational Medicine discovered that antibodies elicited by the Pandemrix influenza vaccine cross-reacted with a human brain protein, hypocretin receptor 2.

If you are harmed by a vaccine, you can’t sue the manufacturer. The National Childhood Vaccine Injury Act was signed in 1986 by President Ronald Raegan as part of a larger health bill. This act declares no person can sue ant vaccine manufacturer. Instead they have The Office of Special Masters of the United States Court of Federal Claims, where you can file a case in return for compensation. 3,645 compensation awards have been made by the National Vaccine Injury Compensation program between 1989 and 2014 and 9,786 claims have been dismissed. In 2014, the court received 542 claims and compensated 365 people for a total $202 million.

Medical decisions for children should be left up to the parents and/or caregivers. The co-founder of National Vaccine Information Center, Barbara Low Fisher states “If the State can tag, track down and force citizens against their will to be injected with biological products of known and unknown toxicity today, there will be no limit on which individual freedoms the State can take away in the name of the greater good tomorrow.” The government should not be able to involve themselves in personal medical choices especially with such high risks. Vaccines are unnatural and natural immunity is more successful than vaccinations. Mayo Clinic states that natural infection ‘often provides more complete immunity than a series of vaccinations.” Vaccines are not natural; they are an artificial thing. Natural immunity is much stronger than whatever they inject in your body. Without the vaccines, your body would find a natural way to fight the illnesses, making you immune system stronger rather than have something injected in you.

After discussing all the risk of vaccinations, I believe more investigation should be done before making them mandatory. There are still risks that no one should have to take when thinking about the safety for themselves or others. If a parent believes that their child should not require vaccinations, who is to tell them otherwise? It should be up to the parents if they want their children vaccinated.
