Like a salmon, as a teacher I feel an intrinsic urge to return to my place of origin in the ocean. Despite facing hardships, similar to predators, obstacles, and the strong current of a river that challenges the salmon’s journey, I also encounter difficulties on my own path. The longevity of my profession depends on how well I overcome these obstacles and successfully navigate through them.
The challenges ahead begin immediately. My first struggle is with the unpredictable currents of the river. These currents are dangerous and tricky, pushing me towards the river bank where hostile animals await. But within a few hundred feet, the currents become calm and smooth, allowing me to easily push upstream. However, danger still lurks from the banks of the river and the sky.
As the river becomes fast and rough, I must muster my strength and push forward, facing white water rapids that can wash me away or force me to start over. These rapids lead me to the most difficult obstacle I have faced – the dam. To overcome it, I utilize tools provided by my allies or seek assistance from my fellow salmon to find an alternative route.
This process is repeated multiple times on my journey home, guided by my instinct like a map in the treacherous waterways. It helps me correct any wrong turns and brings me back on course.
And now, I am very close to home.
After a difficult journey, I have reached my ultimate destination: the classroom. The challenges I encountered on the way have left me exhausted and drained, but I still have an important responsibility ahead of me. With whatever energy remains, it is my duty to share knowledge with those who will enter our environment. Only then can I ultimately find peace.
