Turner Thesis Research Paper Fredrick Jackson Essay

Turner Thesis Essay, Research Paper

Fredrick Jackson Turner developed the thesis that the American West created and reinforced the American ideals of: equality, democracy, chance, and individuality. I disagree with Turner? s thesis and experience that the American West created merely the antonym. It created a period of inopportunity and inequality particularly between the rich and the hapless categories of the clip period.

There are many things to demo that Turner? s thesis was away beam. The Homestead Act was one such thing.

This act gave every individual who wanted it the chance to take free land. However, the authorities gave more secret plans of land to of import people that they did to ordinary people. Besides, land speculators snatched up large parts of land and held on to them so that they could sell them for net income at a ulterior clip. This left the ordinary people with much less land to populate on and much less chance. This shows inequality between the different categories of this clip period.

Another thing to demo inequality between the different categories in the period of 1865 to 1900 was the new version of the harvester invented B

Y Cyrus McCormick. This was expensive and non all could afford it, one time once more demoing unequal chance. This led to a disadvantage for the poorer common people and left them with much more labour. The people who could afford this harvester profited more than those who didn? T, therefore demoing inequality between the rich and hapless.

A concluding illustration that showed how Turner? s thesis was erroneous was the Sand Creek Massacre. Seven hundred Colorado rummies marched their manner to the Indians? garrison and started to maim and mangle them. They ended up killing a batch of Indians. This is evidently unequal intervention between the Whites and the Indians. The Whites could freely kill Indians on a caprice without any penalty. Indians were forced to go forth their lands, move onto reserves, and fly their fatherlands. In kernel, Native Americans were treated more like animate beings than people.

Clearly, the above information shows how the American West created unequal life styles between the different categories in the period of 1865-1900. Some may experience that Turner? s thesis is valid, while I disagree and the back uping facts above show how it is an unsound papers.
