“Why I Believe in Nursing” I believe in nursing because of the care and compassion that is involved in being a nurse. Nursing is a profession that only certain people can be good at, it takes a large amount of care, compassion, and understanding to take care of patients with medical problems. When a person is sick they are scared, worried, and upset because of what is happening to them and when you have a good nurse to help explain things to a person it helps out a great deal with the nerves of being ill.
With me being a nurse means that I can give back to people what I have received when I was sick. When I was 16 years old I was diagnosed with a life threatening illness that almost killed me. I was in and out of hospitals for over a year and have experienced the best kinds of nurses and the worst kinds of nurses. Throughout my illness I was able to pick up on nurse’s who loved their job and nurse’s who either hated it but were in it for the money, or who were burnt out and needed a change in where they work.
I have had nurses that showed me the compassion, concern, and understanding which is needed when a person is sick and worried what will happen to them. I want to be a nurse because I find helping people extremely rewarding, just knowing that making even a small amount of difference in a person’s life makes me feel good about what I do. I have worked as a Certified Nurse’s Aide for over four years and find my job extremely rewarding because I know that I make a difference in a person’s life.
I know that when I talk to a resident, toilet a resident, feed a resident and wash a resident up I am making a difference in their life because if individuals like myself weren’t around who would take care of these people. People ask how I can do my job, being a CNA and I explain to them, if there wasn’t people like me in this world who would do it? By progressing in my career I am excited about being about to help a person more by assessing a patient and helping a doctor diagnose a person with them right problem, because nurses have more interaction than any other person in the medical profession.
